SGI Refreshes Entire Scale-Out Product Line; Increases Performance, Density and Power Efficiency Up To 60 Percent.
FREMONT, Calif — SGI, a provider of HPC and data center solutions, today announced full and immediate support of the Intel® Xeon® processor 5600 series (codenamed "Westmere-EP") across its entire scale-out server lineup, including Altix® ICE high performance computing (HPC) clusters, CloudRack™ and Rackable™ scale-out servers, SGI® InfiniteStorage servers, the Octane™ III personal supercomputer and the newly announced Origin® 400 workgroup blade solution. SGI's server solutions boast increased performance, core density and power efficiency up to 60 percent.
"Our long-term investment in Intel technologies and the Intel® Xeon® processor 5600 series is critical to our customers accelerating their results," said Mark J. Barrenechea, SGI CEO. "We are excited to leverage these compelling processors to establish new standards in performance and density across the industry."
SGI® servers powered by the new Intel® Xeon® processor 5600 series provide up to 50 percent higher core density than previous generations of SGI systems based on Intel processors, with up to 24 cores per rack U. Systems will further benefit from up to 40 percent higher performance per watt and up to a 60 percent increase in overall raw performance. The Intel® Xeon® processor 5600 series allows scalability up to 1,056 cores in a single rack with Rackable back-to-back mounted, half-depth servers.
"The Intel® Xeon® processor 5600 series offers performance, energy efficiency and security capabilities that will be an essential part of SGI's server infrastructure," said Boyd Davis, general manager data center group marketing, Intel Corporation. "We are pleased to see SGI fully leverage the benefits of our new Intel® Xeon® processors across all of its innovative server solutions."
