PLANO, Texas – Siemens PLM Software today announced Version 5.0 of Teamcenter® Express software. Teamcenter Express is a configuration of Teamcenter, the world’s most widely used PLM portfolio, and is the collaborative product data management (cPDM) component of the Velocity Series™ portfolio, Siemens PLM Software’s comprehensive family of modular, yet integrated solutions addressing the PLM mid-market. This latest release provides key enhancements that improve the productivity of small and medium size businesses (SMBs), thus reducing the time needed for completing design-through-manufacturing projects.

Teamcenter Express Version 5 delivers an updated user interface with new Lifecycle Viewer and Structure Manager modules that consolidate and simplify visualization and product structure management tasks. New cost analysis tools are also available for both products and projects, enabling costs to be calculated from the initial concept design through release to manufacturing, resulting in improved cost control and profitability.
Version 5 also delivers an improved user interface and expanded capabilities for integration with Microsoft Office 2007. While working in Word, Excel®, PowerPoint® or Outlook® users can easily browse and search the Teamcenter Express database, add new documents to this single source of data, and review and approve cPDM workflow tasks that have been assigned to them. More users working from a single source of product data results in less errors and more consistent completion of everyday tasks.
Several enhancements to the optional project scheduling module are also delivered with Version 5. This includes the ability to view multiple project schedules in a single window, enabling improved resource allocation and early identification of potential bottlenecks along with the ability to link projects together in hierarchical and sequential structures.

ZWSOFT Announces Success of First Global Partner Conference

CGTech Ships VERICUT 7.0, CNC machine simulation and optimization software
Irvine, California – CGTech has released the next major version of VERICUT CNC machine simulation and optimization software. VERICUT 7.0 features significant performance-improving enhancements that reduce the time required for manufacturing engineers to develop, analyze, inspect and document the CNC programming and machining process. Instead of focusing on new features or add-on modules, CGTech developer resources have focused on diligent code optimization and customer-driven enhancements.

CGTech sought to reduce the number of pop-up dialogs for day-to-day VERICUT users and eliminate any confusion associated with “Apply”, “OK” and “Cancel” buttons. As a result, setting up a new project in VERICUT has been simplified. Items formerly in pop-up dialogs have been moved to the Project Tree, where all projects are now configured by using an intuitive configuration panel automatically displayed as the user selects each branch. Actions are immediate, so “Apply” or “Okay” clicks are unnecessary.
The Component Tree has also been merged into the Project Tree but can be optionally hidden, depending on the user’s requirements. Additionally, the Project menu is now much simpler with menu actions moved to the Project Tree. All these updates mean the user can stop hunting through menus to find the dialog the user need; everything the user needs is now in one place.
MOTION CHANGES
VERICUT 7.0’s motion processing is all new. Thousands of development hours have gone toward optimizing VERICUT’s internal code for the fastest, most efficient motion simulation to date. Motion Simulation refers to how VERICUT calculates the motion path from the NC data and animates it. The motion in all view-types is now coordinated and tool images are consistent. Collision tolerance and motion display are independent. When set to stop at a travel limit, the simulation continues the motion with axis clamped, while any cuts during a limit error are painted red. A 5-axis NC block is now one motion and simulation times overall are shorter due to improved efficiency.
It is now possible to pause VERICUT in the middle of an NC block. Pressing Pause halts VERICUT immediately. The busy light is yellow when paused in the middle of an NC block, and displays green when stopped at the end of an NC block. If paused mid-motion the user can complete the current block by pressing the Step button. If paused mid-cycle, pressing the Step button will finish the multi-motion cycle. Several new Step options are available by right-mouse clicking the Step button. These allow the user to step into, over, or to the end of any subroutines used in the user’s NC program sequence.
Users now have more control over Drill Cycles. Options for “Full Motion” & “Bottom Only” add the same cycle time and only control the animation display. “No Motion” removes material and adds cycle time but without any animation, and “Ignore” skips the cycle with no added time. Drill, turn, and pocket cycles stop immediately, and can be continued to the end with Step or Play, while turn cycles prompt the user to finish the cycle or jump to the end.
COLLISION DETECTION
All collision configuration is now done via the collision branch in the Project Tree. 5.x and 6.x collision configurations are upward compatible and read into 7.0. This central location for all collision control eliminates any possibility of duplicate collision checks. All current functionality is maintained. The user can define a near-miss collision with cut stock, and all near-miss and actual collision errors are separated in the logger. Components turn red upon first display of the collision contact, instead of at the end of the colliding motion.
CAM INTEGRATION
VERICUT can read NX Part Files directly when NX is on the same computer. NX parts can be referenced either directly from within VERICUT, or via the NX-to-VERICUT interface.
The CATIA V5–To-VERICUT Interface has been enhanced with many new features for managing tools. The user can merge tools from a template with new tools from the Part Operation, and optionally put all unique tools in one tool library. The user can also use CATIA-referenced STL models. VERICUT holders are now named using the holder names already defined in CATIA. Additional new features include the option to specify work offset subsystems and set model tolerances for the stock, fixture and design models. The interface optionally remembers the last options used. When working with multiple setups, the design model is only output in the first setup and moves with the cut stock.

Hyundai Heavy Industries chooses STAR-CCM+ for fluid-structure interaction analysis
Seoul : CD-adapco has announced that Hyundai Heavy Industries, Co., Ltd. (HHI), the world’s largest shipbuilder, has adopted STAR-CCM+ for its fluid-structure interaction analysis of ships in waves. After an extensive evaluation HHI chose CD-adapco’s flagship Computational Fluid Dynamics product because of its breadth of applicability and its ability to substantially reduce development timescales when deployed early in the design process.

VE-Pro also incorporated automated results filtering and report generation for its ASHRAE/CIBSE heating and cooling loads calculation tools. Minimising the loads in a building is the first step in achieving efficient designs, and VE-Pro’s enhanced load reports produce the data needed to achieve this goal. The TÜV SÜD qualification assessment provides evidence to automotive engineers using Model-Based Design with defined verification and validation measures that the tools are suitable for developing safety-related software for ISO 26262.
The qualification improves confidence in the correct execution of activities and tasks required by ISO 26262 defined Automotive Safety Integrity Level (ASIL) A through ASIL D. Each of the qualified tools has a certification report defining a set of verification and validation measures, which embedded system developers need to complete when using the tools to develop their high-integrity applications. EDEM 2.2 now allows users to combine the facility of saving the full dataset for use as restore points along with a selective save of sub-sets of the results data. Selecting only those sub-sets of the full dataset required for analysis can substantially reduce the file size. This allows a greater number of simulations as well as much larger simulations to be carried out for a given storage capacity. These models can be imported from generic or native CAD files or can be geometric primitives created using EDEM's built-in tools.
In addition, the non-cubic bin volumes can be moved through the spatial domain gathering the desired statistics over time. But as EDEM simulations have grown larger, results file sizes have also become very substantial with associated impact on data storage capacity required.
EDEM 2.2 now allows users to combine the facility of saving the full dataset for use as restore points along with a selective save of sub-sets of the results data. Selecting only those sub-sets of the full dataset required for analysis can substantially reduce the file size. This allows a greater number of simulations as well as much larger simulations to be carried out for a given storage capacity. Delcam CRISPIN will show its complete range of design and manufacturing software for the footwear industry at the SIMAC exhibition to be held in Milan from 13th to 15th October. In addition, the cursor action has been improved to speed up the drawing of style lines, and the selection of menus and icons.
Handling of textures has also been improved. It has been made easier to edit existing textures, and to drag and drop textures from a texture library onto the various panels of the upper.
The new version of the LastMaker software for last design has also been made easier to use, both for the creation of standard lasts and for the development of bespoke designs. Improved creation and editing tools for cross-sections have been added to allow more specific adjustment to the overall design. Similarly, profile-line editing has been enhanced to make it easier to modify the outline shape of the last. Autodesk Acquires Assets From BOSS International, Inc.
StormNET, RiverCAD and WaterNET Software Tools to Provide Autodesk Civil Engineering and Utility Customers with Comprehensive Water Analysis Capabilities.

(NASDAQ: ADSK) has announced the acquisition of certain assets from BOSS International, Inc. to further expand its water resources analysis capabilities for the architecture, engineering and construction (AEC) industry. StormNET for stormwater management analysis, RiverCAD for floodplain analysis, and WaterNET for water distribution analysis will be more closely integrated with Autodesk's model-based design solutions, including AutoCAD Civil 3D, to help engineers streamline workflows, reduce errors and boost productivity. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
The environmental engineering and water/wastewater utility markets have recently experienced an uptick due in large part to economic stimulus spending. The acquisition of these products aligns with Autodesk's mission to consistently extend value to its customers and satisfy industry demand. Adding valuable expertise and industry knowledge, Chris Maeder, former president and CEO of BOSS International, will join Autodesk as an industry solutions manager for the environmental engineering industry.

• Professor Marc K. Smith will discuss how he uses CFD simulations to teach fluid mechanics to undergraduate students at Georgia Institute of Technology.
• Darrell Pepper, Professor of Mechanical Engineering at University of Nevada – Las Vegas will present a benchmarking report on CFD simulation performance.
In addition to the keynote addresses, training sessions, and mini-courses, more than 100 engineers, scientists, and researchers from academia and industry will offer individual user presentations illustrating the application of COMSOL Multiphysics in their simulation projects. Presenters are drawn from a broad assortment of industries, engineering and scientific disciplines, and fields of study. Among the topics covered in the user presentations are acoustics, bioengineering, chemical engineering, earth science, electromagnetics, optical modeling, and transport phenomena. Back again this year by popular demand is the poster session, where attendees meet and discuss multiphysics projects with the presenters then vote for their favorite presentation. A record number of presenters are expected to participate in this annual event.
A key element of the COMSOL conference is the wide range of training opportunities and mini-courses taught by COMSOL application engineers offered to attendees. Topics cover a breadth of interests including acoustics and vibration, chemical engineering, electrochemical engineering, heat transfer, MEMS and piezoelectric simulations, microfluidics, optimization, porous media flow, and RF & microwaves. Also throughout the conference venue, hands-on demo stations staffed by COMSOL experts showcase new products and offer attendees on-the-fly insights and help with their multiphysics simulations.

Oakland University and Dassault Systèmes Partner to Offer Product Lifecycle Management Short Course
Auburn Hills, MI _ Dassault Systèmes and Oakland University (Rochester, Michigan) announced today a partnership in the university’s four-week post graduate program called the PLM Workforce Development Short Course. Aimed primarily at displaced engineers, the intensive four-week course offered by the School of Engineering and Computer Science (SECS) integrates business and engineering expertise. Students will be fully immersed in PLM, which relies upon collaborative mechanical design, analysis, and manufacturing software to support products from creation through end of life.
Oakland University’s School of Business Administration realizes that engineers who stay abreast of modern trends in manufacturing and process planning know that implementation of a PLM strategy is quickly becoming the standard by which successful companies bring innovative ideas and products to life. This course will help prepare the workforce for this growing application area.
“We are excited that we can be part of such a timely program, which can provide the technical skills needed for employing workers in this area,” said Roy Smolky, DELMIA Worldwide Academic Relations, Dassault Systèmes. “This is just our first step in developing unique approaches to education for area workforce needs.”
In addition to classroom work on the campus of Oakland University, participants will be trained to use several DS DELMIA digital manufacturing and production tools at the DS Auburn Hills training facility located just one mile from the OU campus. Upon successful completion of the certificate program, students will be fully prepared to take an independently administered DELMIA proficiency certification exam.
“This is definitely where things are going in industry,” said Robert Van Til, an SECS professor who helped develop the certificate program. “There is a real demand for professionals who are proficient in this domain, with the digital manufacturing side expecting double digit growth over the next five years. What we see as a significant differentiator from other Workforce Development courses is the extensive hands-on training provided by Dassault Systèmes.”
The course is being offered on a full-time basis. Prospective students who are unemployed may be eligible to receive tuition assistance through the “Michigan Works!” retraining initiative. The program also is open to working professionals who are able to undertake a full-time professional development regimen.

500+ Companies Confirm 3D Product Catalogs Mission Critical : PARTsolutions survey
MILFORD, OH - PARTsolutions, LLC released a new industry survey that provides a view into the importance of CAD-native 3D product catalogs to design engineers for product selection.
