HOPKINTON - EMC® Corporation today announced that Forrester Research has positioned the EMC Documentum® ECM suite a Leader in the enterprise content management (ECM) market.
The November 2009 report of "The Forrester Wave™: Enterprise Content Management Suites, Q4 2009" states that "EMC continues to build on its ECM suite leadership, with a broad range of capabilities and strengths in document management, document imaging and capture and records management. The vendor continues to make significant advances with focus on development and deployment acceleration, integration enhancements to third-party applications and UI improvements."
"We are pleased that Forrester recognized our position as a leader in the ECM market," said Whitney Tidmarsh, Chief Marketing Officer, Content Management and Archiving Division at EMC. "EMC's placement in the Forrester Wave report for ECM reflects the breadth, depth and ongoing innovations in Documentum. And because of these innovations, EMC continues to advance and be a leader in the ECM industry."
According to Forrester, investments in ECM remain a priority for organizations and buyers of ECM software:
* Long for leaner, more agile solutions;
* Get frustrated with gaps in solution delivery;
* Increasingly want to integrate SharePoint with other systems;
* Show more interest in collaboration functionality;
* Need more transparency in the content contribution process.
The introduction of the EMC Documentum xCelerated Composition Platform (xCP) is a major leap forward in the rapid delivery of what the market refers to as "contextual applications." With Documentum xCP, system integrators, independent software vendors and internal IT developers can rapidly build and deploy case processing solutions at a lower cost and with fewer resources. Case processing addresses complex patterns of work found in the majority of business operations by orchestrating how people collaborate and use information to make decisions. Designed to reduce project complexity and risk, Documentum xCP is an applications composition platform that provides fully integrated technologies, development and deployment tools as well as application accelerators with a focus on configuration versus coding. Booz Allen Hamilton, winner of the xCP Designer's Challenge, was able to build a government case-processing application in eight days using Documentum xCP.
Documentum delivers a holistic solutions approach to ECM with core functionalities that include document management, business process management, records management, retention management, collaboration, Web content management and digital asset management. Unlike with other ECM solutions, customers can further extend Documentum and meet their end-to-end ECM needs by leveraging EMC Captiva® for enterprise capture, EMC Documentum CenterStage™ for secure extended collaboration, EMC Document Sciences® for customer communications management and EMC SourceOne™ for information governance.
In October, EMC introduced new solutions that enable customers to further leverage and extend the value of their Microsoft SharePoint Server deployments. The solutions provide SharePoint customers with seamless integration to Documentum for improved content aggregation, operational performance and compliance, to Captiva for converting paper documents into intelligent content and to EMC SourceOne for executing legal discovery searches and holds.
The recently-announced EMC My Documentum family allows everyone in the organization to utilize ECM functionalities directly from common desktop applications such as Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Windows Explorer and Microsoft SharePoint. With the My Documentum family, all business-critical information is accessible, controlled and archived for governance and compliance requirements without the user having to leave their everyday application.
