Leading technological CAD and CAM solutions for the complete machining of aerospace parts: From February 2 – 7 at Singapore Airshow 2010 (Booth K96).
Wessling, Germany – OPEN MIND Technologies AG will present its leading range of technological solutions, including CAM systems, CAD software and CAD/CAM-integrated environments. Highlights at this year’s exhibition at OPEN MIND booth are the new intelligent functions and features for high-speed-machining of structural parts, special applications for milling of single blades and impellers and blisks. Visitors will also gain an insight into the integrated versions of hyperMILL® in Autodesk® Inventor® and hyperMILL® for SolidWorks®.
hyperMILL® , one of the leading CAM software products worldwide includes a broad set of high quality machining strategies for 2-D-, 3-D- and 5-Axis simultaneous machining. A wide range of automatic functions, together with fully automated collision avoidance, reduce programming times and simplify programming effort.
Milling impellers, blisks and turbine blades is a very challenging technical process. For instance, optimum use of the space between the blades must be made to ensure the tool maintains maximum rigidity, and technical parameters such as the lead angle and feedrate need to be set.
The complete machining of turbine blades is made possible by milling strategies optimised for turbine blade machining, supplemented by cycles for the machining of mechanical attachment features and the milling of special blade geometries.
The multi-blade and single-blade packages in hyperMILL® make programming a snap without the need for any special skills.
5AXIS technology offered by hyperMILL®: Precision and time saving
On suitable 5axis machines, the leading 5axis technology in hyperMILL® can often yield time savings of more than 25 per cent, while also reducing tool wear and increasing contour accuracy to ensure that production is particularly cost effective. Thanks to easy programming with automatic collision checking and avoidance, this technology represents the most cost-effective alternative even for many standard milling jobs. Roughing, profile finishing, Z-level finishing, equidistant finishing or rest machining are among the 5axis strategies available. An additional series of special 5axis cycles is also available, such as 5axis top milling, 5axis swarf cutting or 5axis cutting edge machining.
Furthermore, hyperMILL® makes all-in-one machining possible in a single setup. This reduces setup times and increases machining precision. The integrated workspace monitoring feature also includes a unique ‘best fit’ function, which allows the setup position of a workpiece to be automatically optimised to suit the available workspace. With software packages for cavities, surfaces and specialised tasks, OPEN MIND offers an extensive range of machining operations that is unique throughout the world.
Continuous Process Chains
Thanks to the CAD-integrated versions of hyperMILL®, the user can take advantage of arguably the most modern CAM programming system in their own familiar software environment. hyperMILL® can be accessed directly using the hyperMILL® button and is available via the user’s familiar CAD interface. Furthermore, data import issues and read/write errors can be avoided as both the CAD and CAM systems have access to the same data model. It is possible to switch between the CAD and CAM systems at any time. If changes are made to the CAD data, all defined CAM operations are updated automatically.
The new hyperMILL® 2009.2 release also allows users of various CAD platforms to access the full range of functions of hyperMILL® 2009.1. The highlights include an optimised fast travel concept, an extended job list, job linking, an improved tool database as well as transformation and mirroring functions.
