CADCAM developer Delcam has completely redesigned its www.delcam.com web site to make it easier for visitors to navigate the site and find the information they need. The site continues to offer full details on the company’s wide range of design, manufacturing and inspection software, case studies on hundreds of successful users, and the opportunity to download evaluation versions of the programs.
The need for the re-design was prompted by the rapid expansion of Delcam’s range of software over the last three years. "The acquisition of the FeatureCAM, PartMaker and Crispin families of software, together with the introduction of new products like DentMILL and OrthoModel, has given us a much greater variety of programs,” explained Delcam Marketing Manager Peter Dickin.
"At the same time, we have greatly increased the number of industries in which we are operating,” added Mr. Dickin. As well as our traditional market in the mould and die industry, we are also growing our business in aerospace, autosport, power generation, oil and gas, packaging, footwear, medical and dental, and many others.”
"Both of these trends have lead to a huge increase in the amount of material on the web site, which had made it harder for visitors to find the information they need. For example, Delcam offers a wider range of CAM software for a greater variety of machine tools than any other developer. This may be very impressive for potential customers but what they really want to see is information on the software program that is appropriate for their application, which could be anything from a simple 2D machine up to the most sophisticated mill-turn equipment.”
Another growing part of the site is the user forums. Individual forums are now available for each of Delcam’s main products. Delcam staff monitor the forums regularly so that they can answer users’ queries and provide tips and shortcuts to help increase productivity with the software. They also use the forums to announce the release of new patches and software versions as they become available for download. In addition, the forums allow users to add their own tips on the software and to display any particularly impressive projects they have completed.
Case studies continue to form one of the most popular areas of the site. More than 250 examples are included showing how Delcam users have been able to increase productivity, improve quality and reduce lead times following the introduction of the software. "Potential customers are often somewhat sceptical about the claims made by software companies,” said Mr. Dickin. "They would much rather read about real-world examples of the use of our programs. The endorsements we get from our customers are the most powerful, and most convincing, messages for those looking to invest in our software.”
