CAMPBELL, Calif — Centric Software, a leading provider of product lifecycle management (PLM) for fast moving consumer goods industries, today announced that chief technology officer Ravi Rangan has been inducted into the Academy of Distinguished Engineering Alumni for the Georgia Institute of Technology’s (Georgia Tech) College of Engineering.
The award recognizes alumni of Georgia Tech’s College of Engineering who have made significant contributions to their profession, Georgia Tech, or society in general. Recipients are widely recognized for their professional and personal success, their active involvement in engineering or management, and the distinction they bring to Georgia Tech, which is ranked 4th out of all U.S. engineering schools by US News & World Report.
Rangan, who completed his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Georgia Tech in 1990, specializing in engineering information management, will receive the award during a ceremony on November 7, 2008.
The Georgia Tech award is the most recent of several industry acknowledgments of Rangan’s leadership. Earlier this year, he was named as the 2008-2009 Chair of the Executive Steering Committee of the Computers and Information in Engineering (CIE) Division of American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). He served as Conference Chair for the ASME CIE Conference 2008 held in New York in August.
Rangan has published extensively, and organized symposia, panels and tutorials in the areas of business process modeling, systems architecture, design automation, and information/knowledge management. Rangan is a founding member of the ASME's JCISE editorial board, and a reviewer for several journals.
During more than two decades in the engineering field, Rangan has served as CTO of Centric Software and Product Sight Corporation, a company he co-founded to address process-aware product lifecycle applications for the PLM market. At Product Sight, which was acquired by Centric in 2005, Rangan was a key player in the definition, evolution and deployment of the Centric MultiSight and Centric InSight application suites.
“Centric’s leadership in PLM is built on the vision and leadership of the people who strive to bring the best technology to our solutions, and Ravi epitomizes those efforts,” said Chris Groves, president and CEO of Centric Software. “We are proud of this recognition of the leadership and guidance Ravi has provided to the engineering community. We’re equally proud of the dedication and vision he brings to bear on solving our customers’ problems as a member of the Centric team.”
