Satyam to Help Establish Automotive Electronics Standards

- Services provider will also help facilitate reuse of code, reducing development and time-to-market
- Will demonstrate embedded capabilities at driveIT conference in Stuttgart

HYDERABAD, India - Satyam Computer Services Ltd. (NYSE: SAY - News), a leading global consulting and information technology services provider, announced today that it has been accepted as an Associate Member of AUTOSAR (Automotive Open System Architecture), a partnership of automotive original equipment manufacturers, suppliers and tool vendors. The group's objective is to create and establish open standards for automotive electronics architectures, which are replacing proprietary standards throughout the industry. AUTOSAR also provides standards for basic software that customers never see, including the runtime environment, network and nonvolatile management.

Satyam's participation in AUTOSAR will help it expand its footprint in the outsourced embedded automotive engineering services market. It also demonstrates some of its innovations and developments in this discipline, notably in embedded systems, active safety and driver assistance, at driveIT -- an International Trade Fair and Conference for Automotive Software and Electronics being held in Stuttgart Nov. 4 and 5.

"AUTOSAR is a prestigious organization and we are enthusiastic to play an active role in its programs," said Kenneth Taormina, a senior vice president at Satyam and the head of its Manufacturing Enterprise Solutions Group. "The organization is helping companies in the automotive industry cooperate on standards, which enables them to demonstrate their true business value to the marketplace. That approach fosters innovation and healthy competition, and enables exceptional organizations to shine."

AUTOSAR's open architectures help create a plug-and-play environment where software modules can be placed into broadly accepted electronics architectures seamlessly and without disruption. Its standardized architecture enables automotive industry companies to focus on their core businesses, i.e., developing new and unique features that differentiate their products and please customers.

"Satyam is a respected global services provider, with great experience helping automotive industry companies solve complex business problems and transform their organizations," said Dr. Juergen Moessinger of AUTOSAR. "We welcome its 800 embedded architecture experts into the AUTOSAR fold and look forward to a trustful collaboration."

AUTOSAR's programs also facilitate the reuse of code, which leads to a more robust and sound software "foundation." Additionally, the ability to reuse automotive industry software reduces development costs and time-to-market significantly.

Satyam's participation in the consortium gives it access to AUTOSAR standards, including many that are not publicly accessible. It also enables the company to help its automotive clients develop innovative, inexpensive solutions for next-generation vehicles.

"Participation in AUTOSAR is an important step for Satyam," said Taormina. "It reflects our efforts to increase our presence in the outsourced automotive embedded engineering services market, and our commitment to performance improvement."

Satyam's joining AUTOSAR comes on the heels of several other noteworthy automotive industry accomplishments. For example, its Automotive Embedded Engineering Practice has achieved PATHFINDER(TM) Organizational Maturity Level 5 certification. PATHFINDER(TM) is an assessment initiative for process capability and organizational maturity. Satyam is only the third company to achieve Level 5 certification.
