Post-processing tool offers deeper analysis capabilities, added visualization features, further support for VIP and NEXUS users
BELLEVUE, WA — Tecplot, Inc. today released Tecplot RS 2009, a major new version of the company’s reservoir simulation post-processing tool for oil and gas reservoir modeling. Tecplot RS 2009 offers new features for deeper analysis and clearer visualization, new platforms, and added support for VIP and NEXUS simulator solutions.
As with past versions, Tecplot RS 2009 is a customer-driven product. A majority of the new and enhanced features were requested by customers like Chevron and International Reservoir Technology Inc. (IRT), a petroleum reservoir management consultancy.
“It’s clear to me that customer suggestions receive high priority on the development task list, which is not true with some software companies,” said Thomas L. Gould, Senior Consultant Reservoir Engineering, IRT. “The new Z-thickening feature, for example, is something we requested and it’s my favorite. It stretches the grid without distorting everything else, and is immensely useful for looking at thin reservoir layers or zones in both 3D and cross section display. I have also been impressed by the support available from the Tecplot team. They are very responsive when issues arise.”
Deeper analysis, clearer visualization
Tecplot RS 2009 offers new and enhanced features that allow users to analyze their data more deeply, visualize data more clearly, and optimize and streamline their workflow.
* Analyze data more precisely. The addition of cross plots allows users to observe relationships between data, supplementing the information they already get from histograms. New “delta” features for grid solutions and XY plots improve the way users see the difference between simulation runs for grid solutions and well production data.
* Visualize data more clearly. A new Z-thickening feature lets engineers stretch grid layers without distorting the topography, which is especially useful when examining reservoir models with very thin layers. RFT plot enhancements allow users to add geologic layers and annotations as background to their graphs, providing additional information for data analysis. Custom date and time formats let users present data more meaningfully.
* Optimize and streamline workflow. Tecplot RS 2009 offers more input and output options. Grid data export allows users to quickly output data for defined sectors in formats ready for various simulators. FLEXnet License Manager also has been added for easier installation and license management.
New platform support
Tecplot RS 2009 now supports 64-bit Windows XP and 32-bit and 64-bit Vista platforms, in addition to the 32-bit Windows XP, 32-bit Linux and 64-bit Linux platforms supported in previous versions.
Comprehensive support for VIP and NEXUS users
New 64-bit compatibility, data loaders and property files will be especially beneficial for VIP and NEXUS users.
* New platforms and 64-bit compatibility for VDB. In addition to supporting 32- and 64-bit versions of Windows XP, Vista and Linux, Tecplot RS 2009 now supports VIP/NEXUS VDB on all 64-bit platforms.
* Data loaders for streamline data. The VDB data loader now includes the option to load streamline solution data from the VDB format. In addition, the RFT data loader now can load ASCII RFT files from the VIP simulator.
* VIP property files. The Tecplot RS property modifier offers a new option for outputting modified grid properties in VIP format. These properties can be read directly by a VIP simulator to quickly test changes to the reservoir model.
Pricing and Availability
Tecplot RS 2009 is available now. Pricing starts at $6,000 in the U.S. for a single-user perpetual license. Existing Tecplot RS 2008 users with current SMS agreements can upgrade to the 2009 version at no cost. Special pricing is available for qualified academic users upon request.
