VAN BUREN TOWNSHIP, Mich -- Visteon Corporation (NYSE: VC) is supplying the 2009 Dodge Grand Caravan and Chrysler Town and Country with optional driver awareness systems that help make drivers more cognizant of their surroundings.
Visteon's Blind Spot Monitoring System is intended to supplement the exterior side-view mirrors, while the first-to-market Rear Cross Path System can warn drivers backing out from a parking spot of oncoming vehicles. Both technologies will be part of an interactive display at the Chrysler exhibit during Convergence 2008, Oct. 20-22 at Cobo Center in Detroit, Mich.
Blind Spot Monitoring System
The blind spot system detects when moving vehicles are adjacent to the driver's vehicle (i.e. in the driver's "blind spot"), and alerts the driver. When the driver looks to the side-view mirror prior to an intended lane change, an illuminated icon indicates that there is a vehicle in the driver's blind spot. The driver is not distracted by alerts for guard rails, medians, trees, fences or other stationary objects that don't pose a threat. This is a robust system that is designed to work in all weather conditions.
Rear Cross Path System
Visteon's Rear Cross Path System is a parking lot aid that detects oncoming vehicles that might be blocked by cars parked on either side of the driver's vehicle. The driver is alerted by an icon in the side-view mirror in addition to an audible alert.
