PLM 8-Layer Model proposed for PLM Standards Workshop

Oxford: There has been extensive user input to the Global PLM Standards Workshop that will be held in Oxford at the end of this month, including a new proposal for a PLM 8-Layer Model that could provide a standard structure for managing PLM implementations.

Other standards requested by users include:-

* PLM Definition and Scope
* Product Structure
* Vision/Planning Integration
* Metrics and ROI
* PLM Engagement and Delivery

The event will be held at the Oxford Centre, 333 Banbury Road, Oxford, England on March 24-25 2010. It will be the first ever workshop with the specific aim of defining a standards framework for the whole of PLM.

PLM standards will clarify much of the confusion in PLM implementation and will enable major savings in the effort required to rationalise PLM across large organisations. The Workshop is a chance for participants to decide what the new standards should be, how they should be developed, and which kind of industry body should maintain them. Delegates will also be able to work on their own standards ideas at the meeting.

The PLM Interest Group
The PLM Interest Group is a global Group which brings together its members to work proactively to solve their PLM problems. It has previously run workshops that have produced the PLM Benchmarking Handbook; the PLM-SCM Guidebook; and the PLM Maturity Reference Manual; and launched the first vendor-independent User Forum meetings.
