Significant overhead savings and Product development efficiencies.
ANDOVER, MA - Omnify Software, a provider of Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) software for electronic, medical, mechanical, and defense manufacturers, today announced that XEI Scientific, a manufacturer of RF Plasma Cleaning Systems for Electron Microscopes and High Vacuum Systems, has reported that the company was able to improve profitability during the economic downturn due to significant overhead savings and product development efficiencies gained with Omnify Software.
As an emerging company, XEI Scientific had a small staff, heavy workload and limited bandwidth. They did not have time to organize product data, leaving it scattered across multiple computers and in different formats. XEI was looking for a way to bring order to their product information and instill disciplines to make sure they had a solid product development process in place.
The company determined that Product Lifecycle Management software would address their needs. After comparing multiple vendors, XEI selected Omnify Software for its affordable price, ability to scale with XEI as their requirements change, and rich feature set. XEI centralized their product information within Omnify which helped to improve collaboration and made accessing product data a simple process. This environment helped XEI to reduce errors and costly rework, resulting in a higher quality product for their customers. "Omnify has paid off by reducing the time it takes to find information and assuring that we are building to the latest approved documentation," stated Ross Bernheim, production manager for XEI Scientific.
With over half of their sales overseas, XEI needs to design and manufacture compliant products. "Proof of compliance is a major contributor to XEI's marketing success," stated Ronald Vane, president of XEI Scientific. "Having all part data, Bills of Materials, and procedures controlled by Omnify Software makes it easy to conform with RoHS standards and pass NRTL and SEMI-S2 product inspections of our assembly and QA procedures. What used to be a multiday inspection with time spent searching for documents has turned into a single day visit because the documents can be easily retrieved from Omnify with the click of a button."
XEI has reported that one of the biggest returns on investment with implementing Omnify was a significant savings in overhead which helped the company to remain profitable in the down economy. "Without Omnify we would need to increase our headcount [with the addition of at least one documentation clerk] and office space to have and maintain the control of information we get using Omnify," said Mr. Bermheim. "Even with a large drop in business due to the recession, Omnify allowed us to continue to grow and improve profitability by keeping costs and headcount down."
"Successful emerging companies like XEI adopt PLM technology early on in order to establish sound product development processes and support future growth," stated Chuck Cimalore, chief technology officer for Omnify Software. "Omnify is ideal for these companies because it makes investing in PLM simple with an easy to use solution that requires minimal IT and administrative resources and offers a price point suitable for companies just starting out."
