Mazak and Delcam to hold productivity seminars

There is much discussion about the level of success that the Bank of England’s recently announced "Quantitative Easing” will have on the UK’s economy. However, manufacturers can guarantee a stimulus to their own businesses by improving the productivity and profitability of their operations.

With this in mind, Yamazaki Mazak and Delcam are joining forces for a two-day event to be held at Mazak’s European headquarters in Worcester on the 12th and 13th May. The event, which will focus on the key elements of program, prove, produce, and profit, will highlight how the right combination of machine tool and software technology creates a platform from which significant, quantifiable improvements in productivity can be delivered.

Visitors on each day of the event will benefit from three sessions that highlight specific technologies and the support that both Mazak and Delcam provide in order to deliver optimum productivity. This will involve interactive demonstrations and live cutting together with opportunities to quiz the companies’ experts.

The first session will concentrate on five-axis machining with Delcam’s PowerMILL CAM software and Mazak’s VARIAXIS 630-5X T taking centre stage. Programming the job in advance is especially relevant for five-axis machining, in order to draw the optimum performance and efficiency from the machine tool.

Following this will be a demonstration of the capability and versatility offered by the Mazak INTEGREX series of multi-function machine tools when used in conjunction with the latest version of Delcam’s FeatureCAM CAM system. The increasing use of multi-function machine tools, and the application of Mazak’s "DONE-IN-ONE” manufacturing, has opened up huge potential for increased productivity, especially when the machine tool and manufacturing software are fully utilised to optimise the component before production. This session will make sure that manufacturers are aware of the extra benefits offered by the latest developments in CAM system and machine tool.

Of course, once programmed and proven, the job must be produced in the most efficient manner and so the final presentation of the day will focus on on-machine verification and the benefits that can be gained by using Delcam’s PowerINSPECT inspection software. Viewed as the world’s leading hardware-independent system for the comparison of components or tooling against 3D CAD data, PowerINSPECT can make use of three-, four-, five- or six-axis machine tools to undertake comprehensive verification of parts while still on the machine, both during and after machining. This will be demonstrated alongside a live cutting demonstration utilising the latest, most efficient cutting strategies.

All visitors will also have the opportunity to view many of the demonstrated techniques in action in Mazak’s state-of-the-art European manufacturing plant, perhaps the most complete and up-to-date machine tool manufacturing plant in Europe.
