The NASSCOM Global Engineering Leadership Summit 2009, held on the 17-18th of November in Mumbai, showcased global and local opportunities in Engineering Services and the opportunities available for India to build a US$50 billion plus market by 2020.
Engineering services potential far greater than IT services or BPO
Last year, India held a 25 percent market share in the nine billion dollar global engineering services business.
In the opening session, Vikas Sehgal, Vice President of Booz and Company presented the interim study of engineering Services.
He also highlighted how India is being looked by the global market to play a significant role in providing high end engineering and cutting edge technology solutions and products in diverse verticals. According to him engineering services could help add 2 percent to the GDP of the country.

He stressed on the need to evolve new partnership models in the innovation and engineering space,  instead of replicating  the IT services model.
The study would be unveiled at the NASSCOM Leadership Summit to be held here in February 2010.
Mr Som Mittal, President of NASSCOM in his inaugural speech reiterated the need to evolve new models of partnership in the space of innovation and engineering.
Mr Ed Tse, of Booz and Company who gave a quick view of how Chinese companies achieve success without following conventional wisdom and develop competitive advantage through innovation.
According to Sehgal, India needs to address the markets rightly besides enhancing its capability to retain its top position. Stiff competition is emerging from countries such as China, Brazil, South Africa and Malaysia.
Mr Krishna Mikkilineni presented an overview of the way forward of the Engineering services forum.
