Irvine: MecSoft Corporation, the developer of VisualMILL®, RhinoCAM®, VisualMILL for SolidWorks® and other computer aided manufacturing (CAM) software solutions, has announced the availability of a 64 bit version of VisualMILL for SolidWorks, an affordable integrated CAM software solution for SolidWorks users starting at $999 (US).
MecSoft’s Product Manager, Uday Honnalagere says that “The 64 bit version of VisualMILL for SolidWorks will be a very important addition to our family of CAM products, in that it enables this product to handle parts which were previously cumbersome or impossible to handle due to memory limitations. This product coupled with the 64 bit version of SolidWorks will allow our customers to machine large parts effortlessly, thereby opening up new machining markets for them. Our tests indicate that we are able to machine parts that we were previously unable to machine in our 32-bit product due to memory limitations. We are excited and pleased to announce this as our first 64 bit product”.
The 64-bit version of the software will be available free of cost to existing 32-bit customers.
64-bit products running on 64-bit Windows operating systems can handle large amounts of memory, (4 Megabytes or more Random Access Memory (RAM)) more efficiently than a 32-bit operating system. More available memory can result in greater efficiency and better overall system performance when running memory intensive applications such as SolidWorks and VisualMILL for SolidWorks. This is a result of reduced disk paging and memory thrashing that is typical of 32 bit systems running such memory intensive applications due to the inherent 2 Gigabyte address space limit of these systems.
