Latest version of the Maplesoft-MAA Placement Test Suite (PTS) announced

Powered by Maple T.A, new tests help ensure incoming students are better prepared.

Waterloo, Canada : Today, Maplesoft, a provider of software tools for technical education and research, announced the latest version of the Maplesoft-MAA Placement Test Suite (PTS). The Placement Test Suite is a collection of placement tests that are developed by the Mathematical Association of America (MAA) and delivered through the online testing and assessment tool, Maple T.A™. The latest version of the PTS includes a new set of high school prognostic tests that provide projected placements in college mathematics courses long before students arrive on campus.

By using these tests, colleges can ensure that more incoming students arrive prepared for college-level mathematics courses. Colleges can save money by reducing the number of remedial classes offered and students can avoid the extra time and costs associated with taking remedial courses that do not count toward their degrees.
Built on the recently released Maple T.A. 5.0, PTS also offers the improved ability to organize and search for question content. For those who wish to customize test content, revision tracking makes it easier to try different variants of the same question, while improved assignment creation makes it easier to manage groups of related questions.

Developed in association with the MAA, the largest professional society that focuses on undergraduate mathematics, the Placement Test Suite dramatically enhances the ability of colleges and universities to assess students’ knowledge of mathematics. Since tests are taken online, it is an “anytime-anywhere” system, providing convenient access for students and saving valuable time for institutions.

“With the new version of the Placement Test Suite, universities and colleges can now use this valuable assessment tool to reach out to students while they are still in high school,” said Laurent Bernardin, Executive Vice President, Research and Development, Maplesoft. “As a result, not only does the institution save money and resources, but the students arrive on campus feeling more confident and ready to succeed in their mathematics courses.”
