ODA and LEDAS to Cooperate in the Development of Geometric and Dimensional Constraints in DWGdirect

The Open Design Alliance (ODA) and LEDAS Ltd., today announced their cooperation to develop constraint support for the DWG 2010 format in DWGdirect™.

When completed, this integration will enable ODA members who have a license for the LEDAS LGS 2D solver to add support for parametric and constraint drawing to their applications.

ODA President, Arnold van der Weide, commented, “Cooperation with LEDAS will strengthen our third party component strategy, which already includes integration solutions for HOOPS and ACIS. We are excited to give our members the opportunity to integrate DWGdirect and LGS 2D together with minimal member development effort, and we are convinced that this work will benefit existing as well as potential ODA members.”

“LEDAS started intensively working on the integration of the LGS 2D solver into DWGdirect in April this year and presented the first results at the ODA World Conference in Leiden, the Netherlands,” added David Levin, LEDAS CEO and founder. “DWG is obviously the most widely used file format in the CAD/CAM/CAE industry and we are excited to make our LGS 2D solver integrated with it, allowing many CAD users to exploit parametric drawing functionality at an adequate price.”

DWGdirect is a development environment for creating custom CAD and technical graphics applications using the C++ and .NET development languages. It includes full support for the DWG and DXF file formats, a powerful object-oriented C++ API, and a rich feature set for editing, manipulating and rendering CAD data. DWGdirect includes support for DRX (DWGdirect Runtime eXtension) component technology, which can be used to build modular components that support custom objects and custom commands.

LGS 2D is a computational module engineered to support two-dimensional parametric sketching/drawing in CAD and computer graphics systems, as well as any other application that requires parametric connections or constraints to be set between geometric objects. LGS 2D is a cross-platform software package provided as a set of binary libraries running on 32- and 64-bit Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, *BSD, AIX, HP-UX, Sun Solaris, and other platforms. LGS 2D can be used as a self-supporting component, or jointly with LGS 3D version. Both versions have similar APIs, providing a complete parametric solution for all aspects of CAD/CAM/CAE system functionality — from 2D sketching to 3D variational direct modeling, assembly design, and kinematics simulation.
