Insitu Accelerates CMMI Maturity for Software Engineering With MKS Integrity

Continuous improvement in CMMI maturity improves likelihood of contract awards

Waterloo, ON : MKS Inc., (MKS) (TSX: MKX) the global Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) technology leader, has released a new case study showcasing the success that Insitu Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of The Boeing Company, has had in accelerating their adoption of the SEI CMMI (Capability Maturity Model Integration) and rapid achievement of CMMI Level 3 compliance through the use of MKS Integrity™.

Insitu Inc. is located in Bingen, Washington, and designs, develops and manufactures unmanned aircraft systems for commercial and military applications including integrated command, control, and video tools for Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR). Given the fail-safe, mission critical nature of its products, Insitu must ensure a high level product and software quality. With an initial goal of achieving CMMI Level 3, Insitu evaluated a variety of product lifecycle management (PLM) and application lifecycle management (ALM) solutions. After completing a study involving multiple vendors, Insitu decided on MKS Integrity as it scored well in its unified architecture and flexibility across the full lifecycle of software engineering.

MKS Integrity has been implemented to ensure consistent, repeatable adoption and continuous improvement through each level of CMMI. MKS Integrity manages the product lifecycle for software used with unmanned aircraft systems, including, networking and user interface software.

"It's critical that our software engineering environment delivers precise, dependable, high quality core applications as a critical component of our unmanned aircraft systems. MKS Integrity supports our software engineering lifecycle from Requirements Management to Test Management, and is a key contributor to our CMMI certification", says Gary Viviani, Vice President of Electronic Systems at Insitu. "We adopted CMMI to improve software quality. After only 10 months, we successfully achieved CMMI Level 3 compliance. This rapid success would not have been possible without MKS Integrity."

Sophisticated engineering companies like Insitu find that they need the powerful Test Management capabilities, process engine, and full traceability across the engineering lifecycle of MKS Integrity to ensure continued on-time delivery of complex systems. By facilitating effective reuse of software requirements, MKS Integrity is being used on many development projects, saving the organization many hours of costly re-work.

"MKS Integrity has proven useful in the most complex development environments from Requirements Management through Test Management. We're delighted to have the top two providers of Unmanned Aircraft Systems using MKS," states Chris Murray, Director MKS - Western Region.
