Premier Chinese wind firm will use FiberSIM® to enhance quality and repeatability of composite wind blades so it can meet goal of producing 500 sets annually.
WALTHAM, MA — VISTAGY, Inc., a provider of industry-specific engineering software and services, today announced that Sinomatech Wind Power Blade Co., LTD, a division of Sinoma Science & Technology, one of China’s largest companies, has purchased FiberSIM® composites engineering software to help streamline its design-to-manufacturing process so it can meet its goal of producing 500 sets of wind blades annually and continue to keep pace with rapidly growing market demand.
Given this lofty goal, the Sinomatech design team was faced with multiple challenges, including increasing the speed of blade design and production and improving the quality and repeatability of manufactured blades. In order to respond to these challenges, the firm’s design department determined it needed best-of-breed engineering tools that would enable them to enhance their capabilities for engineering composite blades.
The design department selected FiberSIM because it meets a number of important criteria, including enabling:
• Faster design cycles, enabling more trade off studies for improved blade configuration and reduced weight
• More accurate and detailed composite part and assembly definition
• Support for rapid iterations between design and analysis for earlier and better blade optimization
• Enhanced composites producibility simulation for early detection of manufacturing issues and rapid feedback to design
• Seamless linking from design to production with support for automated cutting, laser positioning, and electronic documentation.
“We’ve undertaken an ambitious program called ‘500 sets of wind power blades annually construction project’” said Li Junxiang, manager of the Design and Research Department at Sinomatech. “To reach that goal, we need composites engineering software that will enable us to take our process to the next level.
“FiberSIM is well suited for that task because it provides a digital thread that runs from design-to-manufacturing, enabling us to connect all the disciplines so we can move more accurately and quickly through the entire process. That also enhances our ability to establish a repeatable manufacturing process.”
“We’re pleased to have the opportunity to work with one of the premier wind turbine blade manufacturers in China to help them meet their goals,” said Olivier Guillermin, VISTAGY’s director of product and market strategy. “With the extraordinary expansion taking place in wind, suppliers recognize the need to get to market as soon as possible, and Sinomatech’s commitment validates the idea that FiberSIM helps composite wind turbine manufacturers do just that.”
Sinomatech Wind Power Blade Co. Ltd was established by Sinoma Science & Technology Co. Ltd. The company has 50 years of experience in composite/FRP product research and development, starting as Beijing FRP Research & Design Institute. The company is engaged in research, design, manufacture, sales and technical service for wind turbine blades and moulds. The company is located in the Badaling economic development area and is engaged in blade design, testing and material research. The current capacity is 12 sets of blade moulds and 300 sets of 1.5MW turbine blades annually. The company’s leading product is Sinoma 40.2, which is used by many well known wind turbine manufactures both in China and abroad.
