Chicago: The visualization software company Lumiscaphe has announced its new version 4.0 of Patchwork3D (P3D) now available as a full 64-bit version. Lumiscaphe designs software technologies for automotive, aerospace and architecture design that render models in real-time with photorealistic 3-D images of outstanding quality. With new functionalities, Version 4.0 of Patchwork3D includes many modules, such as an unwrapping module to unfold complex 3-D surfaces in 2-D, and the major innovation of this solution: a real-time 2-D post-treament module and a configurating module that creates models according to a set of input parameters (geometrical harmonies and variants).
The real-time 2-D post-treatment module: By virtue of this module, the new Version 4.0 of Patchwork3D offers users the possibility of combining many real-time 2-D effects on the final rendering of the image, while maintaining the grain effect. The post-treatments may be exported in .kfx format to facilitate their reuse and to be configured in metric or pixel size.
A new integrated unwrapping module to unfold in 2-D complex 3-D surfaces: This module offers the possibility of exporting the metric image of the pattern as bitmap and vectorial 2-D images, and also of selecting a preview texture to be plated onto the surface, by virtue of the improvement in the interface and the algorithms.
New configuration module: Lumiscaphe is using the launch of Version 4.0 of Patchwork3D to make available the new tool "Confbuilder," which allows the creation of models that can be configured by means of a set of parameters (geometrical harmonies and variants) and allows them to be viewed in real time and in 3-D.
First Confbuilder User: Renault. Confbuilder will allow the potential Renault client to view a 3-D model of a vehicle based on selected criteria in real time when in the dealership, according the number of configurations in the catalog made available by the manufacturer's marketing department.
Other Patchwork3D 4.0 capabilities:
- A new Ray-It engine: This new rendering engine uses the technique of throwing rays to calculate transparencies and inter-reflections in P3D scenes.
- Additional rendering modes: Depth: camera-object distance in greyscale; G-Buffer: a single color is assigned to each surface (used in retouching software for selecting the visible pixels of a surface).
- P3D Xml format: This new format allows the exporting and importing of data from Patchwork3D to an XML format. It especially enables the fusion of several elements coming from different P3D bases (e.g.: interior and exterior of a vehicle). The P3D Xml format is open and facilitates the creation of personalized gateways between Patchwork 3D and other software suites.

- More efficient material editors: The material editor allows automatic reporting of the sizes of the assigned texture, so as to conserve its scale, which metric sizes are imported directly from the original file, in DPI format, or are input by the user. his novel solution also makes it possible to add "color books," including the one in Photoshop, into the color selector in order to benefit from a very broad range of colors.
