Gurgaon: Hewlett-Packard rolled out the one millionth unit from its manufacturing facility in Pantnagar, Uttarakhand. Setup with an initial investment of Rs. 100 crore, the plant commenced operations in March 2007 and has an installed capacity of5.7 mn units per year for manufacturing desktops, workstations and notebooks.
Congratulating the team on achieving this milestone, Shalyn Lee, Vice President, Supply Chain, Personal Systems Group, HP Asia Pacific and Japan, said, “Today India represents a strategic market for HP and our facility in the country reiterates our commitment to serve our customers in the region. The world class HP facility at Pantnagar is a progression to the next level of hardware manufacturing for HP India.”
It took the team at HP factory 25 months from its start to reach this milestone of manufacturing the one millionth unit. The team took about 14 months to complete the production of its first 500,000 units and 11 months for the next 500,000 units. The facility at Pantnagar employs over 500 people .
Ravi Swaminathan, President, Personal Systems Group, HP India, further added, “With strong infrastructure and favorable government policies, we see Uttarakhand emerging as a key manufacturing hub for the IT sector.”
