SYCODE Releases CATIA V4 and V5 File Export Plug-ins for AutoCAD and SolidWorks

Panaji, GOA – SYCODE has released CATIA V4 and V5 file export plug-ins for AutoCAD and SolidWorks. These plug-ins give AutoCAD and SolidWorks the ability to export 3D solid data in AutoCAD and SolidWorks to CATIA V4 and V5 files without the need of a CATIA license installed on the computer or network.

"The four plug-ins released today complement our existing CATIA V4 and V5 file import plug-ins for AutoCAD and SolidWorks,” explains Deelip Menezes, Founder and CEO of SYCODE. "When using these export plug-ins with our existing import plug-ins AutoCAD and SolidWorks users can now read as well as write 3D data from and to CATIA V4 and V5 files thereby being able to perform a complete round trip.”

Exchanging data using neutral file formats like IGES and STEP can sometimes cause problems due to inaccuracies in two step conversions: one from the source format to neutral and the other from the neutral format to the destination format. Moreover, neutral formats like IGES have many variants thereby making their accuracy dependent upon the flavor of IGES that is used. For these reasons many companies prefer to receive data back in the format that they sent it out. These plug-ins will assume critical importance in situations where AutoCAD and SolidWorks users wish to work with users of CATIA V4 and V5.

The AutoCAD plug-ins have been tested to work with AutoCAD 2000 through to 2010, 32 bit as well as 64 bit. The SolidWorks add-ins have been tested to work with the 32 bit as well as the 64 bit versions of SolidWorks 2001 through to 2010. All the plug-ins are available as a fully functional trials. They come with installers and detailed documentation in the form of compiled HTML help files which contains step-by-step tutorials to get end users started in the shortest possible time.

SYCODE Releases Six Neutral CAD File Format Data Exchange Plug-ins for AutoCAD

Panaji, GOA – SYCODE has released six neutral CAD file format data exchange plug-ins for AutoCAD. These plug-ins give AutoCAD the ability to read and write IGES, STEP and SAT files.

"AutoCAD can already read and write ACIS SAT files,” explains Deelip Menezes, Founder and CEO of SYCODE. "However, this ability is restricted to ACIS version 7.0 only. This can pose a huge data exchange problem for AutoCAD users, especially since ACIS has reached version 20 and most CAD systems read and write SAT files later than version 7.0. The SAT import and export plug-ins that we are releasing today will eliminate this problem since they use authentic libraries from Spatial, the developers of ACIS, and hence will always be compatible with the latest version of ACIS.

SYCODE already offers plug-ins to import IGES and STEP files. However, these are mostly effective to import 2D data. 3D data is imported as wireframe curves, not solids. The IGES and STEP import plug-ins have been completely rewritten and can now import 3D data stored in IGES and STEP files as 3D solid objects in AutoCAD. This is a significant improvement as it greatly increases the ability of AutoCAD to exchange 3D data with other CAD systems. The IGES and STEP export plug-in are new products. When used along with the import plug-ins, they give AutoCAD the ability to do a complete round trip of 2D and 3D data. As an Autodesk partner, SYCODE is committed to offering AutoCAD users robust data exchange solutions that go to solve the data exchange problems that they face in a multi-CAD environment.

All six plug-ins are powered by the widely used 3D InterOp technology from Spatial. 3D InterOp is the industry standard for proprietary and neutral CAD file format data exchange and is used in almost all the major CAD systems. Besides data exchange 3D InterOp also offers powerful repairing and healing features which are extensively used in these plug-ins. Repairing involves checking the file for corrupted data and fixing invalid data. Healing corrects the differences in precision. The plug-ins also create detailed log files which are extremely useful in identifying data translation problems and aid in locating and fixing errors.

SYCODE Releases CATIA V4 and V5 File Import Plug-ins for AutoCAD

Panaji, GOA – SYCODE has released CATIA V4 and V5 file import plug-ins for AutoCAD. These plug-ins allow users to import CATIA V4 and V5 part and assembly files into AutoCAD without the need of a CATIA license on the computer or network.

"Over the past few releases Autodesk has been morphing AutoCAD from a 2D drafting and documentation solution to a 3D modeling and analysis one,” explains Deelip Menezes, Founder and CEO of SYCODE. "However, for AutoCAD customers to fully harness the power of 3D they not only need to be able to create 3D models from scratch in AutoCAD but also be able to edit 3D solid models created in other CAD systems. CATIA is widely used in the aerospace, automotive, shipbuilding and related industries. We believe our CATIA V4 and V5 import plug-ins for AutoCAD will go a long way in helping AutoCAD users exchange data effectively with CATIA users by not having to rely on neutral file formats for data exchange.”

The plug-ins released today are called CATIA V4 Import for AutoCAD and CATIA V5 Import for AutoCAD. The V4 plug-in can read CATIA V4 part and assembly (.model), export (.exp) and session (.session) files from CATIA 4.1.9 to CATIA 4.2.4. The V5 plug-in can read CATIA V5 part (.CATPart), assembly (.CATProduct) and graphics (.cgr) files from CATIA V5 R2 to CATIA V5 R19. The plug-ins are powered by the widely used 3D InterOp technology from Spatial. 3D InterOp is the industry standard for proprietary CAD file format data exchange and is used in almost all the major CAD systems. SYCODE Releases Pro/ENGINEER File Import Plug-in for AutoCAD

Panaji, GOA – SYCODE has released a Pro/ENGINEER file import plug-in for AutoCAD. The plug-in allows users to import Pro/ENGINEER part and assembly files into AutoCAD without the need of a Pro/ENGINEER license on the computer or network.

"Data exchange between Pro/ENGINEER and AutoCAD is largely one way street,” explains Deelip Menezes, Founder and CEO of SYCODE. "Pro/ENGINEER has the ability to read 2D and 3D data from AutoCAD DWG and DXF files. But the reverse is not possible. This is not that big a problem since data exchange between AutoCAD and Pro/ENGINEER mostly involves converting a 2D drawing or a 3D solid in AutoCAD to a 3D model in Pro/ENGINEER. However, in recent releases Autodesk has added significant 3D solid modeling capabilities to AutoCAD, but has not matched it with the ability to read proprietary 3D data from solid modeling systems like Pro/ENGINEER. Pro/ENGINEER Import for AutoCAD gives AutoCAD users the ability to open 3D solid models designed in Pro/ENGINEER and carry out solid modeling operations on them.”

Pro/ENGINEER Import for AutoCAD can read Pro/ENGINEER part PRT and assembly ASM files from Pro/ENGINEER version 16 to Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 4.0. The plug-in is powered by the widely used 3D InterOp technology from Spatial. 3D InterOp is the industry standard for proprietary CAD file format data exchange and is used in almost all the major CAD systems. Besides data exchange 3D InterOp also offers powerful repairing and healing features which are extensively used in Pro/ENGINEER Import for AutoCAD. Repairing involves checking the file for corrupted data and fixing the invalid data. Healing corrects the differences in precision. Pro/ENGINEER Import for AutoCAD also creates a detailed log file which is extremely useful in identifying data translation problems and aids in locating and fixing errors.

Pro/ENGINEER Import for AutoCAD works with AutoCAD 2000 through to AutoCAD 2010, 32 Bit as well as 64 Bit and is available as a fully functional trial. The plug-in comes with an installer and detailed documentation in the form of a compiled HTML help file which contains a step-by-step tutorial to get the end user started in the shortest possible time.

SYCODE's Inventor File Import Plug-in for AutoCAD released

Panaji, GOA – SYCODE has released an Autodesk Inventor file import plug-in for AutoCAD. The plug-in allows users to import Inventor part and assembly files into AutoCAD without the need of an Inventor license on the computer or network.

"We have been receiving requests from AutoCAD users wanting to import part and assembly files created in Autodesk Inventor,” explains Deelip Menezes, Founder and CEO of SYCODE. "Inventor already has the ability to exchange 3D data with AutoCAD via the AEC Exchange method. However, this method requires a license of Inventor in order to perform the conversion. In the event that an AutoCAD user gets an Inventor Part (IPT) or Assembly (IAM) file and does not have access to Inventor, there is no way to get the 3D data stored in the IPT or IAM file into AutoCAD. That is precisely when Inventor Import for AutoCAD will come in handy”.

Inventor Import for AutoCAD can read Inventor part IPT files from Inventor 6 to Inventor 2010 and assembly IAM files from Inventor 11 to Inventor 2010. The plug-in is powered by the widely used 3D InterOp technology from Spatial. 3D InterOp is the industry standard for proprietary CAD file format data exchange and is used in almost all the major CAD systems. Besides data exchange 3D InterOp also offers powerful repairing and healing features which are extensively used in Inventor Import for AutoCAD. Repairing involves checking the file for corrupted data and fixing the invalid data. Healing corrects the differences in precision. Inventor Import for AutoCAD also creates a detailed log file which is extremely useful in identifying data translation problems and aids in locating and fixing errors.

SYCODE Founder Publishes Book for CAD Software Developers

SYCODE today released a book titled “OpenCAD – A Step by Step Guide to Developing a Professional CAD Application” written by Deelip Menezes, its Founder and CEO, showcasing the technologies offered by the Open Design Alliance.

Alto-Panaji, India - "I have been keeping a close eye on the ODA and its technologies for quite some time now", explains Deelip Menezes. “SYCODE is a Sustaining Member of the ODA and I have been writing about the issues surrounding the ODA on my blog at www.deelip.com. By means of this book I am taking it a step further by emphasizing the fact that the ODA is not only about reverse engineering the DWG file format. They offer far more than that.”

The book is written as a short story describing the evolution of a CAD application called OpenCAD. The reader starts with an empty Visual C++ project. In each chapter, the reader adds features to OpenCAD, first making it a DWG reader, then a viewer and finally an editor. Finally the reader ends up with a professional CAD application complete with an AutoCAD-like command prompt and plug-in architecture, thereby giving it the ability to be extended by means of DRX plug-ins.

The book is divided into two sections. Section 1 deals with creating the basic OpenCAD application, wiring it up with ODA libraries and adding features to make it a full blown professional 3D DWG viewer. Section 2 deals with adding a command prompt, plug-in architecture and developing a DRX plug-in that converts it into a DWG editor. The book can also be used as a primer for developing DRX plug-ins since the plug-ins developed for OpenCAD also work with any DWGdirect hosted application such as Bricscad V9.

The book comes with complete C++ source code and is available as a paperback book for $99 as well as a PDF eBook for $49.

SYCODE Launches 20 Data Exchange Plug-ins for Bricscad

Panaji - "Bricscad is able to read and write DWG, DXF and SAT files only", explains Deelip Menezes, Founder and CEO of SYCODE. "In a multi CAD environment, this puts Bricscad users at a disadvantage. With these twenty data exchange plug-ins, we intend to give Bricscad users the power to effectively exchange their CAD data with users of other CAD software." "The plug-ins developed by SYCODE are a very important extension for our customers", says Erik De Keyser, CEO of Bricsys. "They enhance the Bricsys strategy of providing a broad range of applications to our customers. Since a year we are in contact with SYCODE and we hope this is the first step of a long lasting collaboration. I'm sure SYCODE and Bricsys can be very complementary."

The Bricscad plug-ins that are being released today are very different from the other IntelliCAD plug-ins that SYCODE currently offers. They have been written from scratch using the superior DRX technology that has made Bricscad one of the most powerful and stable DWG alternatives available in the market today. The plug-ins are designed to work with the Professional as well as Classic version of Bricscad V8 and V9.

"This DRX technology is fantastic", exclaims Deelip Menezes. "The best part is the intelligent use of smart pointers, whereby programmers are relieved of the duty of freeing memory after it has been allocated by the plug-in code. Memory is released automatically when it is no longer required. This greatly reduces the risk of a plug-in crashing while trying to access an invalid memory location or due to a memory overflow. This is giant leap forward and a sign of things to come."

The twenty data exchange plug-ins are comprised of twelve import and eight export plug-ins.

The import plug-ins are:

SYCODE launches DWG and DXF file import add-ins for SpaceClaim

Panaji: SYCODE today launched DWG and DXF file import add-ins for SpaceClaim.

"SpaceClaim already has the ability to read DWG and DXF files", explains Deelip Menezes, Founder and CEO of SYCODE. "In fact, SpaceClaim goes a step further than other CAD software and gives the user the option to read DWG/DXF files using Autodesk’s authentic RealDWG libraries or the reverse engineered libraries from the Open Design Alliance. However, both these technologies are unable to translate 3D mesh objects in DWG/DXF files into SpaceClaim. Considering that SpaceClaim is a 3D solid modeler this is a grave limitation, especially since all objects described by 3D meshes in DWG/DXF files will need to be reconstructed from scratch in SpaceClaim."

SYCODE’s DWG and DXF file import add-ins for SpaceClaim remove this limitation by giving SpaceClaim the ability to read PolyFace Mesh, Polygon Mesh and 3D Face objects in DWG/DXF files and convert them into solid objects in a SpaceClaim document. These solids can then be edited using SpaceClaim’s excellent direct editing tools, as if they were created in SpaceClaim itself.

Most 3D architectural objects found in DWG and DXF files are defined by 3D meshes. Similarly many objects are originally created in mesh based software like 3D Studio MAX and then find their way into DWG or DXF files. SYCODE’s add-ins not only give SpaceClaim the ability to access these objects, but also edit them as native solids.

“Besides enabling effective and efficient data transfer between SpaceClaim and AutoCAD, IntelliCAD and other DWG based software, these add-ins also go a long way in helping users make the transition to SpaceClaim without losing access to their existing 3D mesh data”, says Deelip Menezes. “Data exchange between CAD applications is a problem that does not seem to be going away anytime soon. At SYCODE, we are doing our bit to solve the problem by giving users the tools to get their data from one CAD software to another. In releasing these two add-ins, SYCODE has crossed a milestone of sorts. We now offer more than 150 products, 151 to be precise, a majority of which are data exchange plug-ins for major CAD systems.”

The two add-ins being released today are:
DWG Import for SpaceClaim DWG file import add-in for SpaceClaim
DXF Import for SpaceClaim DXF file import add-in for SpaceClaim

Both add-ins are priced at $195 each and are available as fully functional 10 day/run trials. Each product comes with an installer and detailed documentation in the form of a compiled HTML help file which contains a step-by-step tutorial to get the end user started in the shortest possible time.

SYCODE today launched thirty two SketchUp data exchange plug-ins

Panaji - 6th Jan, 2009 - SYCODE today launched thirty two SketchUp data exchange plug-ins.

"It is not every day that a company launches thirty two products on a single day. Today is a special day for all of us at SYCODE", explains Deelip Menezes, Founder and CEO of SYCODE. "Without doubt, free Google SketchUp is one of the most popular 3D CAD systems out there. However, despite it's extremely large install base, a minute fraction of CAD vendors have taken the trouble of adding SKP read/write support to their CAD software. As a result data exchange between SketchUp and other CAD software is extremely poor. Today SYCODE is changing that - completely. Our SketchUp SKP data exchange plug-ins will change the way users of free Google SketchUp and Professional interact with users of other CAD software."

The plug-ins being released today can be broadly classified into two categories:

(1) CAD file import and export plug-ins for SketchUp
(2) SKP file import and export plug-ins for other CAD software

Using the CAD file import and export plug-ins for Google SketchUp, a SketchUp user can import files from other CAD software as well as neutral file formats and export his 3D models to other file formats that can be read by other CAD software. Similarly, users of other CAD software can import SKP files into their software or export their 3D models to SKP files. SYCODE's SketchUp data exchange plug-ins allow users of Google SketchUp and other CAD software to easily share 3D models with each other.

SYCODE is releasing thirteen file import and export plug-ins for Google SketchUp.

The import plug-ins for SketchUp are:

Keeping in line with the SYCODE tradition of developing, maintaining and supporting plug-ins for versions of software that the CAD vendors have long retired, but which their customers still use, our programmers have taken great pains to make these plug-ins work with software as early as AutoCAD 2000, Inventor 9, SolidWorks 2000 and Solid Edge 10. Presently we are working hard to develop plug-ins for the next versions of AutoCAD and Inventor among others. When you buy a SYCODE plug-in you can be assured that unless something really extraordinary happens, SYCODE will provide you a plug-in update long before your CAD vendor releases a new version and long after the product has been retired, thereby minimizing disruption in your workflow.

The plug-ins are priced between 95 to 195 Euros and are available as fully functional 10 day/run trials. The software comes with detailed documentation in the form of a compiled HTML help file which contains a step-by-step tutorial to get the end user started in the shortest possible time.
