New PIPE-FLO® video available online

LACEY, Washington — Engineered Software, Inc., creator of the PIPE-FLO Professional design software has announced their first online video now available free on their website for anyone interested in learning how to use the software. The video gives an overview of the main features of the PIPE-FLO Professional program and walks viewers through the creation of a piping system in the PIPE-FLO program.

The online video is intended to make the Quickstart training material available to anyone on-demand, 24-hours a day. The video is also accessible to people who have streaming media blocks, because the video is an embedded Flash® video. Upon completion of the short video, (approximately 45 minutes), the viewer can take a quiz and qualify to earn a professional development credit towards maintaining their Professional Engineer status.

PIPE-FLO Professional is software used by designers and operators to create a model of fluid piping systems. The program allows users to visualize their systems in a familiar format, calculate system operations, easily communicate the design with others and access supporting documents in electronic format.

The video has sections and chapter navigation, allowing a viewer to pause and start or only view the portions they find particularly valuable such as drawing the system, selecting pumps, making hydraulic calculations, and optimizing the system.

"We have been considering providing online training videos for our software for quite some time now," said Ray Hardee, Chief Engineer at Engineered Software, Inc. "This is our first foray, but we intend on having more industry specific videos in the coming months. Videos that show how an HVAC system might be designed, or how a ships’ ballast system would be modeled, or even how you could simulate the operation of a chilled water system in a nuclear power plant. We really want people to see that PIPE-FLO is versatile and limitless in size."

PEX Pipe Added to the Engineered Software, Inc. PIPE-FLO Pipe Tables

LACEY — Engineered Software, Inc. has made an addition to their Pipe Tables used in the PIPE-FLO®, PUMP-FLO™ and Flow of Fluids piping system design software. The new piping table is for Cross linked Polyethylene (PEX) SDR9 Tubing. This follows on the heels of a recent approval for PEX tubing for use in water distribution systems into the California Plumbing Code.

PEX tubing is used as an alternative to copper piping due to many characteristics including its durability, flexibility, lower cost, and ease of installation. The table is based on the ASTM Standard F876 – 08a, and will be offered as an additional free download to those using the PIPE-FLO, PUMP-FLO and Flow of Fluids programs.

“PEX tubing has been used more frequently for some time now internationally, and we have been experiencing its popularity here in the U.S. as of late,” said Ray Hardee, P.E., Chief Engineer of Engineered Software. “We knew it was time to offer this to our customers for the use in their software,” he continued.

Engineered Software, in conjunction with pipe manufacturers and users, has created a number of Pipe Tables that can be downloaded for immediate use with PIPE-FLO, PUMP-FLO and Flow of Fluids software. In addition to the 15 most commonly used pipe specification tables that come pre-loaded in the software programs, Engineered Software also offers 54 other pipe specification tables including the new PEX table.

"We take great care to stay on top of the latest pipe material technologies but we often take suggestions from our customers as well for new pipe materials and their properties," said Hardee. "Our Pipe Tables allow our users to design their piping systems quickly and efficiently because the data is automatically in the program. We want the designer to simply click a few buttons and let the software do the calculations, instead of looking up properties for all of the piping system components."

Engineered Software, Inc. Names New COO and VP of Engineering

LACEY, Washington — Engineered Software has named Michael Blondin as the new chief operating officer, and Christy Bermensolo as the new vice president of engineering. Former Vice President of Engineering, Ray Hardee, P.E., will now be operating solely as the chief executive officer for Engineered Software. Both moves are effective immediately.

“Engineered Software has been extremely successful with the amount of growth we have achieved in the last couple of years, no doubt both Michael and Christy have contributed significantly to that success,” said Ray Hardee, CEO of Engineered Software, Inc. “Both Michael and Christy are strong leaders and knowledgeable in their areas of expertise, I am excited to see what great contributions to the future of ESI will be made by both in their new leadership positions.”

Engineered Software, Inc. has enjoyed steady growth for the last ten years with marked growth in the last two years, increasing staff by nearly 40% since January 2008.

In the his new assignment, Blondin will focus on expanding Engineered Software’s business by developing new service and product offerings, new market development, and organizational refocusing. He will also be responsible for the Company’s sales and marketing management direction. Blondin brings more than 10 years of business and management experience to his new position.

Taking over as the new vice president of engineering, Christy Bermensolo will be leading the growing team of engineers on staff at Engineered Software, Inc. Bermensolo brings more than 10 years of engineering experience, with more than two years within the Engineered Software engineering department. Her plans for the future of the engineering department at Engineered Software include creating new services that support the company’s continued growth.

About Michael Blondin

Michael Blondin originally joined the Engineered Software family in 2005 as Marketing Manager, with over nine years of experience in marketing and sales. Blondin holds a B.A. in Political Science from Western Washington University and a M.B.A. from the Kogod School of Business, American University in Washington, D.C. Most recently, Blondin held a senior marketing management position at the Tacoma Regional Convention and Visitors Bureau in Tacoma, WA.

Blondin draws from his experiences in sales and marketing roles at True Careers, an Internet based start-up within Sallie Mae, Inc. in Reston, VA and at Aristotle International, a political technology company in Washington, D.C. Blondin also served as a Legislative Aide to Congressman Brian Baird in Washington, D.C.

About Christy Bermensolo

Christy Bermensolo began with Engineered Software in 2006 as an Application Engineer, bringing over nine years of previous engineering experience. Bermensolo earned her B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of New Mexico, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Bermensolo is also a patent holder for the Connector for Printed Circuit Boards (#6,146,176), acquired while employed as a Senior Mechanical Engineer first in the Enterprise Server Group, then the Desktop Platforms Group and later in the User-Centered Platform Solutions Division with the Intel Corporation, in DuPont, Washington.

Bermensolo draws on her nine years of previous management and engineering experience with the Intel Corporation, and her leadership as a PSIA Level 1 Ski Instructor, earned in 2003. She has presented a variety of training courses for Engineered Software, Inc. as well as given notable presentations to the ASME Puget Sound Section.

Engineered Software, Inc. Releases PIPE-FLO® Professional 2009

LACEY, Washington : Engineered Software, Inc. announced today the availability of the newest release of PIPE-FLO® Professional 2009 software program. PIPE-FLO Professional 2009 highlights include a new look, new features and improvements such as an Operating Cost Calculator, customizable FLO-Sheets and control valve Rapid Entry.

The PIPE-FLO product line is used by designers and operators to gain a clear picture of their fluid piping systems. The program allows users to visualize their systems in a familiar format, calculate system operations, easily communicate the design with others, and access supporting documents in electronic format. PIPE-FLO is different from other software of this type because of the integration with the pump selection tool PUMP-FLO™. This allows system designers to specify and select exactly which pump would work best in their piping system from over 100 actual pump manufacturer catalogs.

Typically, we find that engineers are being asked where savings can be achieved in their piping systems, with PIPE-FLO, the system can be designed with economics in mind. The biggest improvement for piping system designers is the Operating Cost Calculator, used to determine pump operating costs over a defined period. Users choose their systems’ configuration, select their time frame and energy costs per unit, and can compare different lineup options. This new tool provides a way to see how much operating costs would change if an alteration were made to the systems design, without having to physically make changes to the system.

Many of the new features provide users with the ability to personalize and customize the FLO-Sheet and Reports. In prior versions, adding company logos was not a built in feature. The trend is for companies to have a presentable, easy-to-read, system model that can add value to the entire project.

“Users wanted more customization features for their PIPE-FLO projects and reports, so we allowed users to personalize their FLO-Sheets and reports with their own images and logos. New Features include:

* Operating Cost Calculator – Users can calculate and compare the operating costs of various pumps for any configuration or lineup.
* Control Valve Rapid Entry – Users can generate complete characteristic curve data from a single flow coefficient and valve position by selecting from a list of valve design and flow characteristics.
* Valve Operation Controls – Automatically change control valves from a set flow rate to the calculated manual position for easier lineup creation.
* Atmospheric Pressure Calculator – Calculates the atmospheric pressure at any specific elevation.
* More fluids added to the MKS Fluids Compilation list providing physical properties for over 700 gases and liquids.
* FLO-Sheet Improvements – Place any number of background images or logos on the FLO-Sheet for personalization.
* Report Improvements – Add an image or logo to the top of the printed reports for a personal touch.
* Presentation Mode – Displays the FLO-Sheet with a white background for enhanced viewing.
* Copy and Paste Improvements – Use the standard shortcut keys (Ctrl + C and Ctrl + V) in the PIPE-FLO program for quick copy & pasting.
* New Device Symbols – Seven new tank and component symbols are available to choose from.
