Leading Thinkers Come Together at CIMdata's PLM Road Map 2011 Conference to Address the Mounting Cultural and Integration Challenges in PLM

CIMdata Publishes SAP PLM Program Review

SAP has also embedded BusinessObjects technology in SAP PLM with the Business Context Viewer, which provides on-demand business intelligence to support product lifecycle decisions.

Delcam rated world's leading CAM specialist for 11th year

Increased sales of PowerMILL for five-axis machining has helped Delcam to maintain its position as the world’s leading CAM specialist.

The latest NC Software and Related Services Market report from leading US analysts CIMdata shows that, in 2010, Delcam again had the highest vendor revenues and received the highest end-user payments of all the CAM-centric companies. This means that the company has completed eleven years as the world’s leading CAM specialist, having first achieved its global leadership in 2000.

Delcam also continued to increase its market share. The company’s share of total vendor revenue grew from under 6.5% in 2009 to almost 6.7% in 2010. A further increase in market share to almost 7.5% is predicted by CIMdata for Delcam in 2011.

The CIMdata report also confirmed that Delcam continues to employ the largest development team in the industry, with 175 people working on the company’s manufacturing software. Only two other companies employ more than 100 CAM developers; Siemens PLM with 130 and Dassault with 110.

Delcam Chief Executive, Clive Martell, highlighted the obvious link between the two sets of statistics. "By employing the industry’s largest development team, we are able to produce the world’s most comprehensive collection of machining software from any supplier. We can also ensure that each of our programs is the most productive for each of the sectors in which we operate,” he claimed. "This gives us an unrivalled ability to provide solutions to all of a company’s programming needs. Larger companies can meet all of their CAM needs from a single supplier, while smaller companies can choose exactly the system they need for their particular combination of products and machine tools.”

Total end-user spending is estimated by CIMdata to have grown by 7.6% in 2010, reflecting the rebound in the global economy. CIMdata projects that the rebound in manufacturing will continue in 2011and so estimates that end-user spending for NC software will increase by 6%, approximately back to 2008 levels.

CAM Software Market Leaders Named by CIMdata - NC Market Analysis Report for 2010 Released

CIMdata, Inc., a global PLM consulting and research firm announces the worldwide CAM software market leaders for 2010 in the initial release of Version 20 of the NC Market Analysis Report.

For 2010, Dassault Systèmes was the market leader on the basis of both direct supplier revenues and end- user payments for CAM software and services, and Planit Holdings was the leader in terms of industrial seats shipped. Planit Holdings was also the leader on the basis of industrial seats installed. Siemens PLM Software’s NX was the leader in industrial seats shipped by brand and CNC Software’s Mastercam was the leader in both industrial and educational seats installed by brand name. C&G Systems Inc. was named as the most rapidly-growing supplier at 91.4%, as this new company resulted from the merger of Graphic Products Japan and Computer Engineering Inc.

Mr. Alan Christman, CIMdata’s Chairman and long-time author of the study noted that, "Even though there have been a number of recent mergers and acquisitions, the CAM software market continues to be highly-fragmented and competitive. There is no single supplier or small group of suppliers that dominate the worldwide market, and this is illustrated by the number of different market leaders depending on the ranking category." CIMdata tracks approximately 50 CAM software suppliers and the rankings in the report list 15 to 30 suppliers depending upon the category. "2010 was a rebound year for the CAM software market as the estimated overall market size for end-user payments grew by 7.6%, from $1.239 billion to $1.333 billion. CIMdata projects that the overall market will continue to grow in 2011 by 6% to $1.412 billion," stated Mr. Stan Przybylinski, CIMdata’s Director of Research, who led the data collection effort.

The leading suppliers in 2010 based on CAM software and services direct revenue received were Dassault Systèmes, Siemens PLM Software, Delcam, Planit Holdings, PTC, Tebis, Cimatron, OPEN MIND Technologies, C&G Systems, and Missler Software. Dassault Systèmes and Siemens PLM Software were the clear market leaders with double-digit market shares and a combined market share of 30.6%. Delcam was listed as the largest specialty supplier. The remaining eight suppliers in the top ten had a combined market share of 37.4% and the remainder of the suppliers below the top ten had a combined market share of 32%.

The top five worldwide leaders in 2010 on the basis of end-user payments were identical to those shown above, i.e., Dassault Systèmes, Siemens PLM Software, Delcam, Planit Holdings, and PTC. However, there were differences in the grouping of the second five. The second five positions on the basis of end- user payments were held by Tebis, Cimatron, OPEN MIND Technologies, C&G Systems, and Missler Software. The changes typically reflect a greater use of resellers as compared to direct sales.

The estimated worldwide top five suppliers in 2010 based on CAM industrial seats shipped were Planit Holdings, Delcam, Siemens PLM Software, Dassault Systèmes, and CNC Software. The seat count rankings are significantly different than the supplier revenue rankings, reflecting differences in cost-per seat. The 2010 rankings on the basis of industrial seats shipped by brand were Siemens’ PLM Software NX, Dassault Systèmes’ CATIA, CNC Software’s Mastercam, PTC’s Creo Parametric (the former Pro/ENGINEER), and Planit Holdings’ EDGECAM. The changes in rankings are primarily due to the differences in level and breadth of product and associated software pricing among the suppliers.

The worldwide five most rapidly-growing CAM software suppliers on the basis of revenue in 2010 as compared to 2009 were C&G Systems, SolidCAM, Geometric Technologies, CG Tech, and CNC Software. CIMdata is projecting that the five most rapidly-growing companies in 2011 will be SolidCAM, Geometric Technologies, Delcam, CGTech, and Cimatron. It should be noted that SolidCAM, Geometric Technologies, and CGTech are expected to be among the top five most rapidly-growing companies in both years.

CIMdata Publishes "Overcoming the Barriers Imposed by Geometry"

CIMdata, the leading global Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) management consulting and research firm announces a new paper detailing the use of SpaceClaim Engineer as a tool to prepare CAD model geometry for finite element meshing prior to analysis.

“Overcoming the Barriers Imposed by Geometry” explores the issues that CAE analysts face due to the burden of poor quality and over-detailed geometric models in their attempts to produce timely simulation results. In order to properly mesh models for finite element analysis, topological inaccuracies such as surface gaps and small sliver surfaces in the geometry must first be corrected. The analyst must then simplify the model by de-featuring the geometricdetail by removing things such as small holes, slots, and rounds that design has added for final manufacturing.

This paper describes these time-consuming issues and relates the experiences of three different CAE analysts who have turned to SpaceClaim Engineer as a solution.
