TROY, Mich - ProMetal RCT, LLC, an Ex One Company, has been designated North American distributor of Voxeljet's three-dimensional printing systems for investment casting patterns. This appointment complements ProMetal's existing line of Rapid Casting Technology systems which enables digital production of sand molds and cores. ProMetal RCT will offer contract services in addition to equipment sales and service.
"We are very glad about this new partnership and see a perfect match," states Dr. Ingo Ederer, Managing Director at Voxeljet Technology GmbH. "ProMetal RCT uses similar technology and targets industrial applications successfully in a different market."
Voxeljet's 3DP systems produce complex plastic models with high surface quality and dimensional accuracy. The part is formed layer by layer as a binder is printed on thermoplastic powder from a CAD design. The part results in a porous component which is infiltrated with wax or epoxy to produce a prototype, functional part, design sample or pattern for investment casting.
Both RCT and Voxeljet's 3DP systems permit freedom and flexibility in the component design. Elaborate, thin wall, delicate or lacy cores and patterns not previously achievable can be produced. Unique serialization codes can easily be added. The number of cores or patterns required with conventional casting can often be reduced. Multiple small, individual parts can be printed simultaneously which is advantageous when producing small lot sizes of various components.
In conventional casting, first pours may require changes in tooling design to eliminate casting defects. With digital manufacturing, only the CAD model is modified, not all the affected tooling. In the case of prototype or small lot production, avoiding the financial burden and lead times associated with tooling offers huge time and cost savings.
"This is a natural extension for ProMetal RCT," states Dan Maas, Business Development Manager. "Adding investment casting capabilities to our current sand casting technology clearly enhances the portfolio we offer to the foundry industry."
ProMetal RCT is a subsidiary of The Ex One Company, LLC, a family of companies that is committed to transitioning breakthrough manufacturing process technologies to the world's factory floors through research, development, and commercialization of advanced equipment, materials and services.
Voxeljet is a leading supplier of industrial 3DP applications, operating the largest service center in Europe for on-demand manufacturing of casting molds. The latest product line includes 3DP systems for small volume production of plastic components and casting patterns.
