Bentley Appoints Pieter Neethling Solutions Executive, Mining and Metals

EXTON, Pa. – Bentley Systems, Incorporated has appointed Pieter Neethling to the newly created position of solutions executive, mining and metals. In this capacity, he is responsible for establishing an integrated suite of software solutions and products that support the complexities of a mining operation’s production and business planning process. In addition, Neethling will identify new opportunities in the mining and metals processing market, and provide Bentley’s sales colleagues with an in-depth understanding of this business, enabling them to successfully support and expand the company’s community of users in this growing field.

Neethling joins Bentley with more than 20 years of experience at leading mining companies including Graphic Mining Solutions International (GMSI); Ensign Bickford South Africa; Sasol Nitro, a division of Sasol Ltd.; and National Explosives Ltd. He comes to Bentley from global gold producer AngloGold Ashanti Ltd., where he served as IT manager, mineral resource management. Neethling is based in Brisbane, Australia, and reports to Carey Mann, Bentley’s vice president of solutions.

“Pieter’s long and successful career in mining and metals makes him the ideal choice for enhancing Bentley’s presence in this important and expanding field,” said Mann. “He has the knowledge and insight to identify new opportunities and help Bentley deploy the most effective technical and sales strategies – strategies that focus on Bentley’s ability to deliver solutions and products that are innovative, of the highest quality, and provide a great deal of value to our users.”

Mann continued, “There is critical need in the mining and metals sector for comprehensive software solutions that span the entire mining lifecycle. Bentley’s capacity to span the disciplines and business processes critical to this field is unique. Bentley offers solutions for surveying, mapping, tunneling, rail systems, roads, utilities, structural engineering, bulk materials handling, processing plants, and more. We will increasingly offer an end-to-end solution, from extraction of the ore to the processing of the metal. Pieter’s appointment is a critical piece in our ability to fully realize our vision.”

Neethling is a former member of the South African Institute of Mining and Metallurgy, which supports its members’ needs for technological and scientific knowledge of minerals and metals in South Africa. He is a graduate of the School of Business Leadership, management development program, at the University of South Africa and holds a metalliferous mining engineering degree from Technikon Witwatersrand in Johannesburg.

The solution communities that Bentley serves include, in addition to mining and metals, roads, bridges, rail and transit, campuses, factories, buildings, power generation, oil and gas, water and wastewater, electric and gas utilities, communications, and cadastre and land development.
