T-Systems Provides File Converter Framework for Aras PLM Platform
Application Automatically Converts New and Modified Files Saved in Aras to a Variety of Formats for Improved Viewing and Global Collaboration.
Aras®, the leading enterprise open source Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) software solution provider, today announced the availability of the File Converter Framework application for the Aras Innovator® PLM platform developed by Aras certified partner and global systems integrator T-Systems International GmbH. The T-Systems File Converter Framework automatically translates files to a wide range of formats for viewing, collaboration and inclusion in PLM workflows within Aras. The application simplifies the sharing of files across the enterprise and with global supply chain partners, and eliminates the need for costly format-specific software licenses to simply view information.
The server-side File Converter Framework can convert files to one or more designated formats when a file is checked into an Aras vault anywhere in the world. When a new or modified file is saved to Aras, the File Converter Framework performs the conversions and attaches the new files to the defined Item Type, and users can then see the new files, as well as the original file, in Aras. The conversion process can be applied to multiple CAD file types including CATIA and Siemens NX.
The File Converter Framework is easy to set-up, administer and manage, and can also be used to perform and monitor batch file conversions within Aras.
With the File Converter Framework users can:
Convert / check files in Aras and automatically attach the converted (or checked) files to the designated Item Type
Perform custom file handling, such as .DOCX to .PDF, .PPTX to .PDF and .CATPart to .3DXML
Setup new batch conversions such as file conversions and data checking routines
Attach custom events to handle files, such as OnAfterPromote Document
Monitor created files and logfiles within Aras
“T-Systems File Converter Framework is another great example of how an open architecture promotes the rapid introduction of advanced functionality and the continuous expansion of available applications on the Aras PLM platform,” said Peter Schroer, President of Aras. “Capabilities like this simplify global collaboration and drive PLM results for global enterprises.”
The open source version of the File Converter Framework for Aras includes multiple file types such as PDF, HTML and other select formats, and is freely available for download from the Aras Project Site at http://aras.com/plm/001375
Additional capabilities for complex implementations and CAD file types such as CATIA and Siemens NX are available from T-Systems https://servicenet.t-systems.com

Solution Provides Companies that Run SolidWorks with Packaged Functionality Out-of-the-Box for Corporate-wide PLM Business Processes.
Aras®, the leading enterprise open source Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) software solution provider, today announced the launch of a new solution designed specifically for companies that run SolidWorks®. Aras Enterprise PLM (Aras EPLM™) for SolidWorks Enterprise PDM provides packaged functionality out-of-the-box for corporate-wide PLM business processes, enabling global companies that run SolidWorks to improve product quality, accelerate time to market and achieve greater profitability.
Global Cross Functional Processes
Built on top of SolidWorks Enterprise PDM, Aras EPLM is a scalable and secure business-ready solution for New Product Development and Introduction (NPDI), Complex Configuration Management, Enterprise Change Management, Outsourced Manufacturing, Quality Compliance and more. It extends Enterprise PDM to drive PLM processes throughout a company and its supply chain for collaboration across organizations including product development, operations, quality, purchasing, sales & marketing and other groups worldwide.
“Together Aras Enterprise PLM and SolidWorks Enterprise PDM provide the ideal solution for us to streamline and simplify process complexity throughout the company,” said Dave Baer, IT Project Manager at Spartan Motors. “Aras allows our SolidWorks users to maintain their current design practices without disruption and extend our processes for cross functional coordination.”
“We've been working with SolidWorks users for years and know that SolidWorks Enterprise PDM is by far the best CAD file manager for those designers. Companies are looking for a way to keep what’s working and preserve their investment while they address cross-functional, enterprise-wide PLM business processes,” said Peter Schroer, President of Aras. “So, we’ve taken our open source PLM solutions, included new out-of-the-box functionality that connects directly to EPDM, and packaged it all up to create a totally new commercial offering that's optimized for companies that run SolidWorks.”
Easy-to-Use & Powerful
Web-browser screens with a familiar Microsoft look and feel make the application easy to learn and use for everyone, and the highly flexible pure Web architecture includes powerful scalability, robust security and multi-site replication for deployments with users located around the world.
“Our engineers have been screaming for something like this. We have a deep product structure on some of our product lines and this will significantly increase productivity and quality. Aras EPLM for SolidWorks Enterprise PDM makes a lot of sense,” said Kevin Friske, Database Administrator at MiTek Corporation. “We also like the fact that everything with Aras is on Microsoft SQL Server, and since its 100% browser-based, its easy-to-use for people at multiple sites.”

Ilesfay Joins The Aras Partner Program
Provides Cloud-based Data Replication, Collaboration and Storage for The Aras PLM Solution Suite.
Aras today anounced that Ilesfay Technology Group, an Ohio-based provider of cloud-based data replication technology and services for corporate product lifecycle management, has joined the Aras Partner Program. Ilesfay‘s proprietary Content Delivery Engine leverages the cloud to ensure the timely, accurate delivery of information, reducing costs and solving data delivery and storage challenges for corporate PLM customers.
In the past, companies made huge capital investments to build cumbersome point-to-point solutions. These solutions quickly became obsolete, as the amount of data or the distributed demand for data exceeded the limits of the infrastructure resulting in wasted time, increased rework, poor decision making and missed deadlines. Drawing on deep experience in network/Internet connectivity and large data sets, the Ilesfay Content Delivery Engine uses the cloud to ensure that the right data gets to the right person at the right time for a fraction of the cost.
“Ilesfay’s cloud-based replication solutions are globally accessible, easily managed and highly secure, providing Aras users with the sophisticated replication, collaboration and storage capabilities required in today’s complex, distributed product development environments. We are pleased to welcome Ilesfay to the Aras Community and the Aras Partner Program,” said Peter Schroer, President of Aras.

Aras provides powerful, easy-to-use functionality for enterprise-wide PLM processes such as New Product Development and Introduction (NPDI), Complex Configuration Management, Enterprise Change Management, Outsourced Manufacturing, Supply Chain Management, Quality Compliance and more. Aras’s highly flexible model-based Web architecture, robust security, multi-site capabilities and powerful scalability make it well-suited for geographically distributed deployment scenarios with thousands of users across the extended enterprise. And Aras is the only enterprise PLM suite that eliminates PLM license fees and provides a predictable, fixed cost structure which is especially important for large scale deployments.
“Extending our level of integration with the Autodesk portfolio of products will deliver significant benefits to manufacturers,” said Peter Schroer, president of Aras. “We are excited to work more closely with Autodesk, and to seamlessly integrate mission-critical PLM processes for product development, quality, and the supply chain with the design data authored and managed in the Autodesk environment.”
