Apparel Manufacturer Mammut Sports Group AG Adopts Dassault Systèmes’ ENOVIA V6 Solution
Unique Platform Running on Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Streamlines Collaboration and Improves Time to Market.
VÉLIZY-VILLACOUBLAY, France — Dassault Systèmes has announced that Switzerland-based Mammut Sports Group AG has selected Dassault Systèmes’ ENOVIA V6 solution running on Microsoft SQL Server 2008 to manage its development processes from initial product design all the way to sourcing, manufacturing and sales.
The Mammut Sports Group AG designs high-quality durable alpine and trekking equipment, including apparel, footwear and climbing gear. The company needed to group information related to all its products in one database and replace manual, time-consuming methods for data search and consolidation that left room for error when communicating internally and with external suppliers. Providing all stakeholders with easy access to the “single version of the truth” improves time to market, reduces costs and leaves more time for innovation.
“In the past, product information was dispersed throughout the company. Often we needed too much time to track down the latest, most up-to-date data when we needed to negotiate with suppliers, create marketing and technical documentation, or create product specifications for production launch. This sometimes generated costly errors and the need for rework due to products that did not comply with the latest design intent,” said Josef Lingg, chief supply chain officer, Mammut Sports Group AG. “Working with ENOVIA V6 provides us with an opportunity to reduce development cycle time thanks to the fact that designers have easy access to previous product data that they can use for new product design. ENOVIA also improves collaboration since all data resides in the same place and is easily accessible to everyone participating in the product definition process.”
Mammut chose ENOVIA V6’s Apparel Accelerators for Design & Development and for Sourcing & Production to address the entire product development to manufacturing cycle. Based on industry best practices for apparel design, the ENOVIA Apparel Accelerators provide pre-defined work processes, data models, and document management capabilities that reduce development time and costs. And with Adobe Illustrator integration in ENOVIA V6, designers can create and access data in ENOVIA from within the Adobe interface.
“ENOVIA V6 provides a single collaborative innovation platform for managing intellectual property. Adopting a product lifecycle management approach to streamline and tie together a company’s ecosystem’s business processes is critical to meeting the challenges facing today’s globally dispersed apparel companies and their suppliers,” said Monica Menghini, VP, consumer goods, consumer packaged and retail industry, Dassault Systèmes. “With challenges such as fast-changing consumer preferences and the need to be on top of the latest technology trends for outdoor wear, response time must be swift to win market share. Companies that make the move toward a unique data management platform and ready-to-use PLM industry-specific processes will see their productivity increase and their time to market accelerate, providing them with the business advantage needed to remain ahead.”

Because it is based on standard MS apps, Engineering Express could be quickly adapted to these needs and is easy to maintain. Solar Century also appreciated that the time for implementation and the financial investment were smaller than those required by traditional PLM applications.
Engineering Express also facilitates the concurrent collaboration between Solar Century and its strong network of partners, increasing productivity by eliminating the need to complete one part of a project before another can be initiated.
“Like many growing companies, Solar Century was running a range of diverse business management software which was not effectively connected. This led to some operational inefficiencies which needed to be addressed,” said Mat Burgess, Solar Century’s development manager. “By partnering with UK Dassault Systèmes VAR Design Rule, we introduced the flexible ENOVIA SmarTeam-based methodology that provides the tools to efficiently manage all future business expectations.” As their business activities extend, Solar Century modifies and expands the solution accordingly, in a gradual and phased manner.
Design Rule Managing Director Bob Hiller commented, “Inevitably, companies that quickly grow from a small base have the same issues to deal with as larger companies and many outgrow their IT infrastructure even before it has delivered any real business benefits. To deal with Solar Century’s plans, an ENOVIA SmarTeam solution that matches the business’ current and future requirements has been deployed in less than two months.”
“In today’s challenging economic conditions, more and more forward-thinking mid-sized companies recognize the need for tools that will let them adapt their products from both the top and bottom lines, not only by reducing production costs but also by adding innovation,” remarks Alex Zeltcer, VP ENOVIA Value Channel, Dassault Systèmes. “ENOVIA SmarTeam Engineering Express was designed specifically for these companies, and meets their budgets, schedules and most importantly, their objective to produce excellent products.” Moreover, Solar Century’s selection of ENOVIA SmarTeam demonstrates the viability and potential of PLM for mid-sized companies in growth industries.

“GUC chose Dassault Systèmes as a PLM service partner based upon its capability to create a robust, powerful platform and provide best-practice, highly customized solutions through a professional service team”, said Albert Li, Design Development Division Director, GUC Taiwan. “IC design and implementation require tight control of quality and yield rate for the optimal cost scenario. Efficiency is essential. It is a must that we complete all the design project deliverables before the delivery time. ENOVIA PLM solution has provided an effective way for GUC to address these challenges.”
With more than 100 annual projects in development across 20 distributed Lotus Notes systems incorporating offices in Taiwan, China, Japan, South Korea, North America and Europe, GUC faced the challenge of effectively managing data in a highly complex environment. The ENOVIA PLM solution has enabled the company to create a centralized view of the company’s information facilitating improved coordination and collaboration among IP providers, IC design partners, wafer manufacturers, IC testers and packagers.
By implementing ENOVIA PLM, GUC has refined and enhanced its design operation process. Purchase order reporting time has been reduced dramatically owing to increased visibility and synchronization of information processing that enables real-time updates of data for both users within the enterprise and business partners. Meanwhile, the company’s issue resolution rate more than doubled as project management and execution improved considerably by means of common working platform. And automatically generated reports have been vital in reducing complexity and keeping track of project progress and exceptions.
“Dassault Systèmes PLM solution has enabled GUC to increase its design-win confidence through offering competitive pricing supported by precise cost estimation,” noted Bernard Parrenin, general manager of Dassault Systèmes Taiwan. “At the same time, the customer has been successful in lowering expenditure by productive utilization of project manpower that reduces superfluous costs incurred from potential project delays. The ability to forecast shipment volume and schedule has also maximized GUC’s price negotiation advantage.”

ENOVIA SmarTeam Express PLM Solutions Help Mid-Market Companies Innovate During Economic Downturn
New White Paper Offers Action Plan and Insight for Manufacturers to Achieve Efficiencies and Productivity Gains, Now and in the Future
LOWELL, Mass. - Dassault Systèmes (DS) (Paris:DSY)(NASDAQ:DASTY), a world leader in 3D and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) solutions, today announced availability of a new white paper from Tech-Clarity, entitled: “Innovating Through an Economic Downturn: A PLM Action Plan for Small to Mid-Size Manufacturers Facing Difficult Times.” Following interviews with several DS ENOVIA SmarTeam customers, this paper provides a set of recommended guidelines for small-to-mid-sized companies, including investment in a well-planned, step-by-step approach to Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) that will enable organizations to achieve efficiencies and productivity gains during the downturn and prepare them to rapidly respond to new opportunities as they arise in the recovering economy.
In today’s climate of reduced budgets, experience has shown that when companies invest in product innovation, product development and engineering process improvement, they are building the foundation for future success. ENOVIA SmarTeam, a leading provider of PLM to the mid-market with over 7000 customers worldwide, has packaged its PLM expertise and experience into quick-to-deploy, preconfigured best practice Express offerings that give small and mid-sized manufacturers maximum value for their PLM investment.
Small and mid-sized manufacturers that have embraced this approach have cut a clear path to ensuring their continued operations and strength due to the improvements they achieved with their PLM strategy. Industrial equipment and consumer goods manufacturer Werner Company, consumer goods and industrial electronics company SEC Lighting and aerospace industry supplier Weaver Manufacturing indicate in the paper how by implementing modular, affordable and phased ENOVIA SmarTeam PLM solutions they have made internal process improvements during downturns in their business cycles that have prepared them for the current economic downturn as well as for future opportunities.
Illustrating the efficiencies gained through adopting ENOVIA SmarTeam’s PLM solutions, Roman Vachal, marketing manager for SEC Lighting remarked, “Our product development speed is much faster, and we found time and cost savings because we need fewer people for product-related documents and data. Improving our data management eliminated defective products, production errors and claims caused by human errors during development and production stages.”
“For manufacturers, a normal reaction to an economic contraction is to scale back operations, invest less on process improvement and cut product development and innovation, yet my research and ENOVIA SmarTeam customers’ practical experience has shown that a continued investment in product and process innovation pays off in the short and long term,” said Jim Brown, founder and president of Tech-Clarity.
In a webcast to be hosted by “Managing Automation” on 3 June, Jim Brown of Tech-Clarity will discuss the paper’s findings and share his recommendations to small and mid-sized manufacturers on how to thrive despite the economic downturn. Weaver Manufacturing will be on-hand to relate to their experiences as recounted in the paper.
