"Inside India – Understanding India’s Current and Future Automotive Industry."
Novi, Mich – Tata Technologies, a global leader in Vehicle Programs and Development, Engineering Services Outsourcing (ESO), and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) was a participating organization at the University of Michigan on April 20, in a day-long program titled “Inside India – Understanding India’s Current and Future Automotive Industry.” Kevin Fisher, President – Vehicle Programs & Development Group, represented Tata Technologies as a speaker and a panelist.
The program was a part of the University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute (UMTRI) “Focus on the Future” Automotive Research Conference series. This was the first-ever session focused upon the future of the industry in India.
Fisher’s afternoon presentation positioned the industry-leading automotive innovation currently coming from India; and the “third wave of Indian outsourcing – engineering services,” which is being led by Tata Technologies.
“Unlike the previous waves of outsourcing in the IT and BPO sectors, engineering is represented by a new and unique outsourcing model,” Fisher explained. “Engineering depends upon a high degree of customer intimacy, and therefore requires a new approach to outsourcing that involves a balance of on-shore and off-shore professional resources.”
Tata Technologies is the first India-based engineering outsourcing company able to deliver full-vehicle development programs, Fisher noted. The Company employs India’s largest and most experienced automotive engineering staff.
"The next decade will see an ever increasing demand for accelerated automotive product development and the need to incorporate more new technology than the industry has seen in 30 years," Fisher told attendees. "Increasingly, those innovations and solutions will be coming from India."
Fisher was part of a panel that included Mohan Bachhav, Client Solutions Executive for IBM Global Services and Jayendra Parikh, Executive Director – Ashok Leyland. More than 60 attendees from the University of Michigan, Chrysler, Corning Inc., EASi, Ford, GM, Maruti-Suzuki, Navistar, R.L. Polk, TRW Automotive and WardsAuto.com participated in the conference.
