Leading software testing firm, AppLabs, validates scalability of YuniquePLM to 1,000 concurrent users or 3,300-plus total seats on industry-standard hardware configuration.
Tolland, Conn., USA – Gerber Technology, a business unit of Gerber Scientific, Inc. (NYSE: GRB), announces the results of load and scalability performance testing of its industryleading YuniquePLM™ software solution. The tests were conducted by the world’s largest independent software testing and quality management company, AppLabs. Findings of the tests validate the capacity of the browser-based product lifecycle management application to easily scale to meet the needs of up to a 1,000 concurrent user workload – the equivalent of more than 3,300 total seats in a typical fashion industry enterprise deployment.
According to AppLabs’ vice president of Innovation, Ashwin Palaparthi, “Our testing validated that YuniquePLM can comfortably scale to satisfy the requirements of small to large enterprise client deployments. In a heavy-load environment, the system sustained a load of 1,000 concurrent users while providing consistent response times for a wide range of critical business transactions. The fact that this impressive performance was accomplished without the need for an exotic hardware or software configuration further demonstrates the capacity of YuniquePLM to deliver a winning combination of high scalability with low total cost of ownership.”
Conducted in August and September 2010, the tests measured scalability and performance in a realistic data environment representing 100, 250, 500, and 1,000 concurrent user loads. Testing scenarios were designed to model a true enterprise customer experience within a fashion/retail PLM application. Each test scenario included a mix of typical PLM tasks; including searching styles, images, and materials; uploading images and attaching files; and creating new materials, new styles, and tech packs. During atwo hour period, YuniquePLM created 2797 new images, 3057 new materials, 2063 new styles and 742 new tech packs.
“We are proud to share the results of this rigorous testing with our industry,” said Daniel Pak, Gerber Technology’s chief software architect for Software Solutions. “More and more of the industry’s largest retailers and manufacturers are looking to YuniquePLM for its unmatched usability and performance. These companies are also increasingly interested in deploying PLM through the lower total cost of ownership platform offered by the Microsoft® application platform. These independent test results clearly demonstrate that YuniquePLM offers compelling price, performance and scalability results suitable for even the largest fashion enterprise.”
YuniquePLM sustained a load of 1,000 concurrent users while running on a hardware configuration of two (2) load-balanced Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) web servers, one (1) Microsoft SQL Server® 2008 database server, and one (1) File server; all running standard Intel® Xeon® processors. AppLabs utilized Microsoft Visual Studio® Ultimate 2010 software to monitor the testing.
“The testing exercise also provided the perfect opportunity for us to refine our hardware recommendations and configuration settings for current and future YuniquePLM deployments,” added Shankar Subramanian, Gerber Technology’s director of Global Solutions. “Specifically, we came away from the testing with a better understanding of how to optimize SQL Server and IIS settings to better maximize hardware performance for a variety of implementation requirements. This knowledge will enable us to enrich the user experience for current and future clients. We expect that with additional hardware, YuniquePLM can scale to support an even higher concurrent user load.”
