Sescoi partners IMTMA in its latest mold and die seminars in Delhi and Pune

Sescoi was invited to speak at the latest, two day, die and mold manufacturing seminars organized by the Indian Machine Tool Manufacturers Association (IMTMA), in Pune and Delhi. Specialists from Sescoi examined the challenges facing the die and moldmaking industry in India and the advantages of using an ERP production and planning system, such as its MyWorkPLAN or WorkPLAN Enterprise packages, to optimize manufacturing and use of resources. Sescoi is continuing to collaborate with the IMTMA and has supplied it with several licenses of its automatic CAD/CAM software, WorkNC, for use in the organization’s new Technology Centre, with the aim of promoting advanced manufacturing initiatives in India.

36 engineers attended the Delhi session and 25 the Pune event, including senior representatives from companies such as Federal Mogul Goetze (lndia), Hero Honda Motors, Maruti Suzuki India, Minda Corporation, SKF Technologies India, and Bharat Fritz Werner Ltd.

The seminars focused on the changing environment for mold and die makers where customers require toolmakers to have the ability to react to frequent product changes, yet achieve faster delivery of the finished tool. The trend towards shorter production runs and customized products is driving this demand. To respond, mold and die manufacturers need to lower inventory levels and achieve higher productivity while maintaining quality standards.

Participants heard how Sescoi’s MyWorkPLAN job management software and its WorkPLAN Enterprise ERP system would help them achieve these goals through optimizing use of resources, centralizing project revisions and documentation, and controlling costs in real time. Both software packages were developed for project based manufacture, drawing on Sescoi’s 20 years of experience within the toolmaking industry, making them ideal for India’s mold and die manufacturers.

Modules within the software enable highly accurate quotations to be produced in a few minutes and the stages of production itemized with as little or as much detail as suits the user. All documentation including designs and design revisions is stored with the individual project, making it easy to keep track of changes and ensure compliance. By managing the load on each resource and identifying a critical path for manufacture, the system also warns managers when time or cost overruns are about to occur. Having this information available enables companies to meet delivery targets and optimize profitability. Mahaveer Khot from TEK Components, Pune, which uses MyWorkPLAN, says, “The tools we make are very complicated and our ability to deliver on time is of crucial importance - MyWorkPLAN definitely brings in more business. It is a vital part of this process and it has improved our delivery performance by around 30%.”

At the Pune seminar, delegates finished the final session with a visit to Sermo India, where Sescoi’s WorkNC CAD/CAM software is used to program the complex tools it manufactures.
