Magestic Systems, Inc. (MSI) today announced the deployment of their newest technology at Alenia Aeronautica’s Foggia, Italy facility. TruNEST™ Ply Compensation Software (PCS) utilizes metrology, nesting and laser projection technologies to ensure that composite parts built at this facility satisfy all engineering requirements, reduce material usage and improve efficiency.
As a full-scale enterprise solution, TruNEST™ PCS provides a unique alternative to the current machining process for ensuring as-built composite parts adhere to as-designed specifications. Building a point cloud off of the tooled surface and the composite part, TruNEST™ PCS locates any thickness deficiencies in the composite part and automatically creates compensation plies required to bring the as-built part into tolerance with the as-designed engineering specifications.
“Our focus with development of this application was to provide a solution that integrated our capabilities to best fit Alenia’s needs,” says Mike Weber, Vice President of MSI. “With the current state of the world economy and the rising costs of composite materials, we put a premium on cost-efficiency to complement TruNEST™ PCS’s accuracy, speed, scalability and ease of management. All these economic factors together ensure a positive bottom line return on investment for Alenia.”
