Members of the Custom-Fit project will present the latest developments in rapid manufacturing and mass customisation on stand E90 within Hall 6.1 of the Euromold exhibition to be held in Frankfurt from 3rd to 6th December. Visitors to the stand will also be able to have a personal body scan undertaken using equipment supplied by project member Human Solutions.
Custom-Fit is the largest project on rapid manufacturing currently being undertaken in Europe, and probably the largest in the world. It is an industry-led, research project supported by the European Community and coordinated by CADCAM developer Delcam. With a total of budget of 16 million Euros, including a funding of more than 9 million Euros from the Commission, both the project members and the Commission believe that the project outcomes will benefit both society and industry in Europe.
The members of the consortium are made up from a broad base of organisations across Europe, in the fields of manufacturing, design, scanning, materials and consultancy. In addition to Delcam, other leading participants in the project include TNO Industrial Technology research centre in the Netherlands, the Spanish toy industry association AIJU, rapid prototyping specialists Materialise from Belgium, and the rapid prototyping research departments at Loughborough and De Montford Universities in the UK. The aim of the project is to develop systems for the production and supply of personalised custom products or components.
A range of components made during the project will be on display on the Euromold stand. These include customised motorcycle helmets and seats, a special seat for a toy car for a disabled child, and interior and exterior prosthesis. The collection illustrates not only the practicality of the technology being developed but also the wide range of applications that exist for customised manufacturing.
