Delcam confirms dates for Orthotics Technology Forum 2012

Following the success of the initial Orthotics Technology Forum in Bath earlier this year, Delcam will host a second Forum on 12th and 13th July, 2012, at the University of Salford in Greater Manchester, UK. It will again cover new technologies and processes designed to assist practitioners and laboratories in prescribing, designing and manufacturing custom orthotic insoles. Delcam is currently contacting international speakers that are leading the way in developing and using different types of technology, including hardware devices to help measure biomechanical features, pressure and anatomical form, and CADCAM tools for plasterless manufacture, as well as new ideas for increasing productivity and reducing manufacturing costs. The programme is set to be as varied and educational as this year’s event, showing the latest technology that is currently being used in the design and manufacture of orthotic insoles as well as what may be on the horizon. The aim is to provide another opportunity for delegates to see a wide variety of innovative technologies from a combination of diverse organisations.

The University of Salford is home to Europe’s largest School of Podiatry. The recently-completed facilities in its School for Health Sciences include a multi-million pound podiatry clinic, three gait-analysis and biomechanics laboratories, digital-analysis rooms and orthotics laboratories. Delegates will be able to take part in hands-on experiences as well as a tour of the University’s podiatry facilities.

As part of the focus on sport, the Forum Dinner will be held at one of the world’s most iconic sports venues – Old Trafford, the home of Manchester United Football Club. Delegates will be able to enjoy pre-dinner drinks in the Club’s museum, which houses three floors of history and memorabilia, before enjoying a three-course meal in the Evolution Suite with pitch-side views. There will also be the opportunity for delegates and speakers to network during the evening to share their experiences with colleagues from around the world.

The Forum will be of interest to laboratory managers, podiatrist and orthotists, in fact any organisation that is looking to improve the efficiency and profitability of its laboratory or clinic, and to provide a better service to its patients. Delcam is currently applying for it to be CPD approved so that attendance will count towards the professional development of UK delegates.
